Where did the 10 extra hp come from in 98?

In 98 there was a 10hp jump from the previous 2 years of the 4.6L. Was it attributed to changes in measuring horse power by the auto industry or was there an actual engine modification.

To my understanding, the motor in 98 really didn't get a 10hp increase.

specs show it at 225 hp while previous show 215hp.

someone ocorrect me as i may be wrong, but I believe the 10 hp came from ford tweeking the computer some in 98, nothing to do with the engine , mainly the computer

Thats what I heard, "98's received a more aggressive computer tune freeing up an additional 10 horsepower."

I've heard it was a "computer thing" But I'm sure it was nothing...just better numbers to put down.

I've yet to see a 98 GT dyno higher than a 96-97 stock.

They are basically the same

SOMETHING inside the engine bay also was changed. A POst I read ages ago said something like "Half 1997 technology half 1999 technology" BECAUse FOrd was switching over to newer technology.

ur right..96-97 are 215HP and 98 are 225HP...I think different tune for the computer mainly.

the 98 had a more aggresive tune and better flowing exahaust....if you listened to a stock 98 gt and a stock 96/97gt the 98 rumbles a bit louder...it actually sounds pretty good!

Computer is different than any other year and the exhaust manifolds are supposed to different as well.

The exhaust manifolds are the same 96-98. The 98 GT has a different computer, fuel pump, and throttle body.
