Where did the 10 extra hp come from in 98?

I've yet to see a 98 GT dyno higher than a 96-97 stock.

They are basically the same

I have seen some 98 post higher then the 96-97 with the same basic bolt-ons (exhaust, intake, etc) It was not by much but usually by 5-7 rwhp.

I know the fuel system was different in 98 and more complicated to deal with. It was as if Ford was experimenting on the 98 year.

well all i know is that my 98 must have been a factory freak because i hung with 99 automatics!!! mine was a 5spd. And it also had alot more down low than my 03

Well 99 auto verts run mid-high 14's and the coupes run low-mid 14's...and a 98 5spd coupe is around a mid-high 14...so i wouldn't say you have a factory freak...it's actually right where it would be...

"Alot more down low"...hmm...actually it seemed that way probably because the higher upper rpm horsepower that the 03 has made you think the 03 had less torque...because your 98 would kind of "die" up in the rpm range...making you think you had "gobs" of torque down low...And the 03 has almost a full 20ft lbs more than the 98...
