I'm wanting to chop my antenna on my GT but I've got one problem - there is no ball on there!

I'd like to chop it and install a ball on the top of it, just because I dont know the advantages or disadvantages of not having one, and Ford put it there for a reason. Where it went over the years I have no idea.

So now I'm stuck with a tall, balless antenna. Where can I get a ball to install when I chop it? Thanks!

Actualy I don't know of any company or even Ford that sells the
ball that's on top of the antenna.I tryed do that free mod but,I
had no problem cutting the antenna. The problem was getting the
ball to stick on top of the antenna.I tryed but,it wouldn't stick
so,I ordered a billet antenna from 50resto.com and it looks great
plus the reception of the radio wasn't effected so,I couldn't be
happyer. If I were you 70stangcoupe I would simply call Latemodel
Restoration Supply at 1-866-50-resto and get yourself and shorty
billet antenna.I guess this is for your 97 GT? We'll the part number
is #LRS-18886ABL and it's only 28.95! Good luck what ever you
end up doing!

What you do is put the piece of the antenna with the ball on it and put some vice grips on it and take the ball off the antenna. Then you get yourself some "JB WELD" or epoxy and put that on the antenna shaft and some in the inside of the ball. Install the ball on top of your new shortened antenna. Wipe any excess away, and then wait a few hours and then sand it down and spray it black. My antenna was black, so I repainted mine. you may not wanna do that.

i just bought a replacement. it's the same as stock but chrome. i cut it and put the ball back on top. i lost SOME reception but its still fine. looks better IMHO, especiall the silver/chrome one.

I spent the $30 on the stubby antenna. Don't remember off-hand where the site is. I actually think my reception is better now. Of course, there's always this option:

Take a trip to the junkyard and bring some vice grips. Find a Mustang, remove the ball, put it in your pocket and walk away :spot:

I really don't think you can order that anywhere

My antenna is cut in half, it was done before i bought my car. I have no ball on top and reception BLOWS. It cuts in and out constantly. I think im just going to go with a Bullit Shorty Antenna...looks a lot better and is like $30. I suppose you could always use tin-foil for a ball...that always seems to work for portable radios :D
