I bought a good used 66 emer flasher w/wireing to put on my 65 and was wondering if anyone has done this. Does it still go in the glove box or under the dash? Would it hook up the same as the 66? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The switch goes in the Glove Box. I have never seen one under the Dash.

So the cardboard will hold it in? Does it need some kind of brace to keep it from ripping out?

The only dealer-installed 65 flasher I have seen was screwed to the bottom of the far left end of the dash, where you'd find the choke knob on a K code. It was a chrome knob with a red light in it that lit when it was flashing.

The OE 66 installation had a small steel strap on the backside to hold the bracket, easily made from a piece of scrap sheetmetal. There was no "correct" 65 location, but the 66 setup will work just fine for you.

This looks like the same generic flasher that Mustang had. No doubt the dealer bought it OTC.

I have an NOS dealer add on 65 flasher assembly and it looks like the 66 unit that is inside the glove box. There are some differences in wiring between 65 and 66. That is why I didn't get the 66 one. On mine the switch and wiring are an assembly. In other words there is not a connector to unplug the switch from the wiring. I do not think a 66 unit will work in a 65 as a plug and play installation. How is yours done?

Actually, the add-on version of the flasher was used well into 66. For example, my September 29 car has the add-on style.

There is two different ones though right? I have seen them that the harness plugs into the switch and the early ones where the switch is part of the harness, thats how mine is. Even though they look alike, I thought that there was a difference between them. I also thought that the wiring schematic showed a difference.
