Where does this vac line go?

I was out checking my fluid levels when I found a loose vacuum line. It is over above the automatic tranny dipstick. (Pass side firewall). It isn't sucking vacuum but I can hear a leak somewhere. I couldn't find the other end in the dark.

It is running to a small black cylinder that is connected to the AC cannister (drier i believe it is called).

Anyone have any idea where it goes? And what it controls. This could help my surging idle i bet,

is this it below in the diagram labeled evap emmission cannister purge valve.

Bill's right on - sounds like the purge solenoid hose. If yours is like mine, replace it. The hose runs into the fenderwell and connects to the charcoal cannister. WHen the line cracks, you might smell fuel while driving.

Good luck.

My canister purge solenoid fell out of its "bracket" and is dangling there above valve cover and header. Perhapse I should fix that.....

I think that hose connects right to the back of the upper intake, but I'm not sure.

Edit: wrong, it goes to a nipple on the crankcase vent tube, behind the intake manifold
Edit #2: Just noticed this diagram is from a Fox, I don't think our cars have a crankcase vent tube, but again, I could be wrong

That may be from a fox I am not sure. But that is definetly what I was talking about. However it is in a different location. Soon as I get out of class I am going to try to track down the other end.

I'm sure it will run better without a vacuum leak.

The lines are pretty dry rotted so I will probably go ahead and start changing them. I will probably do that tomorrow when I install my new lower intake gaskets. I may go ahead and remove the smog pump stuff also.

Mine dangles too and I never knew there was a bracket. :bang: I should find that - mine rests (and did rest - I cut new lines just like the old ones) above where the trans dipstick would be. That pic lools like it shows it more towards the driver side of the car. I'll have to look for the bracket.

Mine is more to the left. It is actually attached to the AC drier. I am off work tomorrow and I am going to find the other end and change my intake gaskets. I need to fix the oil leak bad.
