Where is the most restrictive part on your intake?

Is the most restrictive part the runners, or the bend in the top right in the middle?
The reason I ask is because for my first intake for my turbo, i basically put the flange for the TB on the other side of the intake and blocked off that whole main tube. So, I eliminate everything except the intake runners and that big open space for the volume. Oh, and it's blocked off where the runners start to go down, not where the TB used to be. I'll post a pic when i can, but right now it's in the shop being welded up (father in law works there).
The turbo itself has a 2" outlet and it goes straight into a 3" intercooler and 3" piping to the MAF and the TB, so I just want to know if the intake (ported where i could reach with regular dremel bits) will be restrictive much at all.
The point was to try and have a bit of that low end torque before the turbo kicks in so it would get to the boost quicker.

The lower is the most restrictive part of the stock intake.

woah dude are you hacking up an intake?
I would be very careful because if you dont get perfect flow....which is hard, you could lean/rich out certain runners, certain cylinders

I followed you right up to where you said this. Sounds like you said you blocked off the runners.

lol, no, i'm not THAT stupid. Ok, follow on your stock intake...
TB, through the little curve, into the large volume part of the intake. Right there it stops, it's blocked off, so no air can get into the large volume area.
NOW, cut off the flange on the front for the TB, and put it, and the small turn (SN95 here) on the OTHER side with your large volume area.
So, you have the TB on the other side so you don't have to run piping from your intercooler to the other side. From the TB it goes straight to the large volume area, which has a small plate (1" by 3" i think) blocking off ONLY the route back to the stock TB location.

Gotcha - that makes sense. It would help if the TB runner was fairly short and had a very wide throat to the plenum area in front of the runner openings.


I'd like to see the results from that combo - post em up as a "modded intake" results or something.

I'm hoping it works.
I think the TB runner is about 2 1/2-3". It goes from round to square, and although the square shape has more area, the round we figured would have more airflow. We're also toying around with the idea of making a little angle on the inside, so when the air comes in, it flows to the sides, instead of hitting the solid flat piece. Also, we're having a little difficulty redoing the mount for the TB cables. We made sure that the center of the air flow would be in the center of the plate, which was a little bit debated due to the curve and the way the air would compress along the side of the curve.

Then again, it'll be creating boost around 2-2500 RPM, so who cares?

Be careful about directing any airflow at 90° (or even less) across the entrance of any runners - it won't be productive. I'd suggest a short sheet metal "pyramid" that went from one side of the plenum to the otherwith just the TB flange mounted to it to give a clear shot at any runner from the TB center.

We thought about doing that too actually. It was such a pain to try and seal off that hole through the opening we cut for the flange and all that we had originally decided against it. Besides, stock has essentially a 180, right?
maybe we'll be able to fit it in. I"ll try to scam the digi camera from my soon-to-be to get a pic.

The stock one has 180° all right, but it has the back of the plenum to reflect off of and make the turn - you don't have that in yours. If the TB bore does not have a direct unobstructed shot at the runner opening it will have to make a turn and high velocity air does not like that at all. Do yourself a favor, pain in the azz and all - fab up something that gives that straight unobstructed shot from the runner centerline to the TB center line and you'll have a MUCH better chance of making that thing rip.
