Well, it depends on what you think sucks i suppose. they dont have the greatest timing and fuel tables, but they are a very realiable and cheap way to run 24lb injectors on a modified engine until a tune can be afforded in which case the problems with the j4j1 processing can be eliminated. anyone know where to buy one? the original question? thanks

No, a new computer from advance auto parts is 109 dollars. Any decent maf will be at least 2-300 dollars. And it still wont function correctly unless a chip is burnt. it may seem to run ok, but any meter that tricks the computer into running larger injectors isnt imo ok. the cobra computer is excellent, especially when tuned correctly with a chip on a dyno. ford was trying to save transmissions and such when they designed it, so they could warranty there cars. at any rate, this really isnt the discussion. im just trying to buy one, my mind is made up

Have you looked on the Corral parts forum or asked those guys in the 94-95 forum?

I've seen quite a few threads where Cobra peeps went with the A9L retro-fit.

so why dont you go to the store and buy one for 109 instead of posting here??
i see you said advanced sells the gt and cobra as one, but you could order it and look at it b4 you buy it. plus, if you get the correct maf, you DONT need a chip, you can get a c&l for ~100 on ebay, and of course it tricks the ecm into thinking its something its not. the maf can only output say 0-5 volts, how else do oyu fit the spectrum of the air flow data; you have to squish/stretch that data over the specified field. i feel like im going in circles. you say the cobra computer is great when tuned on a dyno, thats proably because they swap the gt maps in.

there was a kit for a while painless made to use a a9l in a 94-95.
why would cobra owners go through the trouble if the computers didnt suck?

They can be found on this site, Corral, and many of the tuner sites if you wish to see what all these peeps have accomplished.

I just pasted the above sentence from that post.

I only gave that info so anybody who might consider it to be radical, out in left field, or just plain rubbish could do a little research and make up their own mind about this topic of discussion.

I just followed peeps experience and findings (not opinions or hear say) who I consider to be much more knowledgeable than me about self tuning 94-95 Stangs.

GT maps suck too for all out perf. Both GT and Cobra stock computers are what would be called SOFT. But stock yes they will work with 24#inj. the stock MAF like a stock cobra would, bump the timing to 14-16* and have at it. Plus the eec will be factory matched to the MAF, that means stock drivability.

Even with a "tricky" MAF our cars are not one size fits all in regards to the eec, it is very non friendly to non-ford parts at times and even with a good meter that ran well on one car it can run like chit on yours for no reason.

People are in 2 camps when it comes to the eec in our cars from what I have seen

1. the ol' A9 swappers, go with what has been around from way back and go with a less developed (older program wise and time wise) eec that is rpm based. You will prob. get buy with a few mods and not have the drivability issues common with the 94-95's.

1---counter point. You can hit that stock eecs mod freindliness and need to get a tune, then you have a tune in an older processor that you got so you wouldnt have to tune...talk about going in circles.

2. 94-95 red-headed step chil-ren, the eec is far less "known" due to the 2yr run, the tables are load based in a 5.0 so 4.6 guys are kinda and fox guys are . They are ok stock not great, not totaly junk but with some work (when you would get some kind of tune) they will run just as well as a tuned A9, and sometimes work better due to the load based tables. IF your going to get a tune why swap to something else for its ability to run alittle better maybe.

2---counterpoint, with the stock eec your leaving power on the table, and finding good info takes some looking.

as far as only one guy -final50- go to the tweecer forums and do a search 90% of the guys prob. run the j4j1 base program with mods to that for more power.
