Where to buy Custom Chip?

Since my car refuses to idle/run well with the new cam in, I have realized that I need either a tweecer or a chip. I really don't know much about any of the chip companies. Which ones are good, who has the best prices, etc.... If anyone could shed some light on this subject for me I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

I run one and they are excellent chips. I recently sent mine back to have it re-burnt for the new motor and they done even better this time around than they did before. My car with the old e-cam would not idle at all. The new lunati was a little better since it has a little higher LSA but the car still did not like it. Plus with all the changes the car was running extremely rich. Now it's almost dead on and has ass loads of torque. With the new wheels I have major traction issues on the street. In other words if I stand in it above 2K in first it's hard to control and will stay that way through third, and it will even break loose in second. And I really get peoples attention when I grab fourth gear. It would spin in first before I had the chip redone but not that bad. Now with less fuel and a better tune it's amazing.

I highly reccomend a Diablo Sport custom burned Chip... only like $250... so reasonable compared to a tweecer, and you can reburn it too w/ the right hookup to your computer... should solve your problems...

If you are doing a mail order chip, they don't get any better than JMS.

I think I'll call JMS tomorrow and speak with someone about their chips. I will fell a lot more comfortable once I have actually spoken with someone, but that definetely seems to be the concensus around here.

Paul - I'm just curious, if you had it to do again, would you stick with the tweecer or go with a chip.

I just want to be able to drive my car and have it perform well!

I know lots of people have had great luck with JMS. I should be the poster child for them.

I have an aode that would stall when I pulled it into gear after my cam change. Heck, I even switched to a blower cam and it still happened. I dropped my local chip tuner that was tuning the car on a dyno and called JMS. Now, everything works mint and I couldn't be happier.

On one hand its nice to be able to try different things myself, on the other I don't have the time and knowledge to dive much deeper into the eec tuner than I already am. I have changed VERY LITTLE with my eec tuner. The only thing I wouldn't want to give up is the fact that depending on weather conditions I can lean out or fatten up the fuel curve which I have seen make a difference for me at the track. Its still a guessing game for me, but I'm getting better at it. If you want to set it and forget it, go with the chip.

Some chips you can get are reprogrammable, correct? I was thinking of getting the EEC-tuner for my car, just to turn some things off and retune a couple other things. If all it takes is hooking it up to a computer to retune it, that's not a problem. I don't have the money for the tweecer, that's for sure.

Are you using the EEC Tuner software and a j3 adapter?? If so what brand and how well does it work? I have tried to email Paul Booth for some info but the address I have doesn't work!!

Me to I'm still running a stock cpu. And I have been running it for the last year. Frankly I'm getting sick of the bucking, surging, hanging idle, and sputtering. I figure a year of it is enough....I'll look into autologic (give them a call) but does anyone know of any dyno tuners in the chicagoland area?

So you just tell JMS your combo and they try to burn a chip that they think will work? Have any of you guys had to send it back and get it reburned because the first chip wasn't dead on? What are the odds that they get it right the first time without putting your car on a dyno?

I think Speed Inc in Schaumburg does dyno tuning.

I talked to JMS on the phone today and I think that is the route that I will be going. Its $325+$10 for shipping which isn't to bad, he sounded pretty confident that they would get it right on the first try, I sure hope so.

Let me know how that turns out for you. I think I'll be going the same route since there aren't any tuners in my area. It seems like I'm one step behind you in this whole process.

I will post an update as soon as I get the chip. I don't think we have a real good tuners in our area either, but I have bigger problems to worry about at this point.

if you're going to do a EEC tuner, go w/ the Tweecer R/T w/ a portable laptop interface... thats the only great way to do it... and do it over and over again well... a little pricey, but worth it!
