Since I'm rebuilding the Motorcraft 2100 Carb., I'd rather not put the old semi-rusty throttle position solenoid back on, but I haven't been able to find any sources online or NAPA.

Could be you're looking for the wrong item. It was called a dash pot if I remember correctly

The exploded view diagram that came with the rebuild kit does show a "Dashpot" under which it states "Some Models" (just not mine). Then it shows another image which matches my setup and label it "Solenoid Throttle Positioner". The shop manual calls it a "Throttle Solenoid". Advance Auto lists it as an "Idle Stop Solenoid" in their computer and they even have the correct picture (but they can't get it). The back of the "Hygrade Products Division" (rebuild kit) box shows both a "dashpot" and "Idle Stop Solenoid".

I'll try emailing Mustangs Unlimited.

Thanks

The only one I found in Mustangs Unlimited was for a Holley on a 428 CJ. I found it in an older catalog. Try CJ pony carbs. Seems to me they'd have it if anyone.

Depends on the application and year model.. The earliest ones were dashpots, put there to keep the throttle from slamming closed and killing the engine. The later ones were solenoids mainly to provide increased idle to let the A/C work more efficiently.

exactly, i have an early 60's 4100 in the garage with a dashpot and also an early 70's 2100 with a solenoid. it boils down to this, solenoids need electricity to function and dashpots do not
