Where to get Line Lock, and where to locate button?

In the off season I will be doing everything I can to get my car ready for the 1/4 mile. I really would like to get some line lockers so that I dont kill my rear brakes doing a burn out (I have Brembo's out back).
So where should I look for line lockers?
How much is it to have them installed?
How important is it to go with a reputable name (like what do people here use)?
I also would like to know where I should mount the button. My car is driven on the street frequently and I really dont want to hit the button accidently on the road somewhere!
Thanks again guys, Stangnet Rules

Hurst

I just installed the Hurst Line Lock on my 95 Cobra. It was not bad, the only difficult part for me was extending brake lines because i no longer have ABS.I hooked it up to my cruise control on my steering wheel for a clean looking install. I have seen people install switch to activate it right under dash on the left side of the steering wheel or slide it over turn signal arm.Just place it where you feel comfortable with it. Good luck

I don't know much about them, but I do know that you can buy a shift knob, I think from Hurst as well, that has a button that you can wire for it.

that is really not a good idea.....

I have bought the b&M kit, i am planning on using the on/off button for the cruise control for it.....someone is supposed to be helping me out with the wiring.....

skpm316, please post a pic of how you routed the lines, i would like to see it, would be very helpful to me...

you can accidently hit it real easy. maybe not so much on an auto but a manual its not good.

i have the summit racing line loc kit. i'm almost positive that it is the same one as the hurst but different labeling. i haven't put it on the car though.

i'm thinking of trying to put it on the left of the steering wheel right with the cruise on/off.

did u rip out your cruise control to make that work?

Yeah, but don't you have to build pressure before the solenoid can hold it in the line? If you're driving and accidentally bump the button, it shouldn't do anything unless you're on the brakes. And if you do, just hit it again to shut it off, right? Just curious, I'd like to have one myself.

Okay .... sorry to butt in .... but this has got me wondering.

I don't necessarily NEED a lock for my burnouts. The problem I'm having is the local track. I have a manual tranny. Just between the box & the tree ..... there is a slight "dip" in the track. Nobody with manuals can launch right without red-lighting. Would a lock help me in my situation? Even if it required pressure before the solenoid would work? How long after the "brakes being released" will the lock function properly?

Thanks.

Ok, people saying the button in the shifter is a bad idea because of accidently hitting the button, has not had linelock.

I have a ****er with the button in it, and LOVE IT. Like someone else said, you need to build brake pressure for it to lock the brakes. So hitting it while driving DOES NOTHING.

that would be a correct assumption, i wanted to buy one of those buttons, but the summit rep talked me out of it when i was ordering the line lock.......i just figured he knew what he was talking about....... guess i'll :Zip2:

lol

sorry to be misleading if i was....

Again, I don't have a line lock, but I think you have to pressurize the brake system, hit the button to engage the solenoid to hold that pressure on the front lines, and let off the brake pedal. Then, you should just have to hit the button again and it would release the pressure. To answer your question, why not just heel and toe the brake / gas pedals at the line? I had to do that a couple times because of wind gusts, believe it or not. A little tricky, but a lot cheaper!

I had the same concern about activating it during daily driving. I emailed SLP (because that's the line lock kit I was looking at) and they said the line lock is like pinching the brake lines. You step on the brakes, hit the switch and it pinches the front brake lines so the front brakes hold. He added, if you hit the switch during normal driving, it will prevent brake fluid pressure from getting to the front brakes. Not a good thing.

Other brands may be different.

Using a momentary switch or a second kill switch would be a good thing.

I installed the hurst setup in my cobra. I also bought the installation kit for a mustang which was a waste of money. I only used two of the ten fittings they sell you. You're better off just going to the parts store for them. My button is inside the ash tray compartment. Right now I'm using the one hurst gives you. But I planning replacing it with a toggle in the same location.
