Where to get my Aluminum Radiator???

Right now I'm leaning towards the Griffin because of it's reputation. I have a 67 and I'm looking to put any cooling issues to bed next spring with the addition of a top notch quality radiator. Yes, I know... there are lots of things to analyze when looking to keep your ride cool. I'm just looking to eliminate one of the key factors. So which of their radiators do you have or which would you recommend? And like the title asks... where to get it? I want a radiator that drops in.... NO fabbing.

Get a drop-in for $400 or fab *slightly* for $179. Your choice.

I like my $$$ too much for that.

I hear that... but sometimes I'd prefer to pay for the peace of mind that a notable company can provide. It is interesting looking at the radiator options though on the web. I wonder why the radiators without the trans coolers are actually cheaper than the ones with? And why would anybody choose to have the outlets other than the stock positions? (staggered vs. inline)

Dunno about the cost, I can't even spell "automatic" . but I like my AFCO, it was $179 to my door (holiday special ), and it required about a 1/2 hr of trimming to fit.

inlet/outlets positions should not be an issue. A crossflow radiator has staggered pipes to provide, you know, "crossflow"

My advice (worth every penny you paid) is to get the rad that has the bottom pipe on the water-pump side, and get the hose to match the upper pipe to your intake manifold. I have the NAPA # for the proper upper hose in the shop, I'll PM it to you if you want later.

Now this won't look stock. But an alum radiator isn't stock anyway. If you want stock appearance, get a 4-row black-n- brass knockoff and fugggeddabouddit.

I got a Northern Rad from M-Detail in Riverside, CA. It's a 2-row with 1" tubes. I know cars with a blown 302s and a built 377 in 65-66 models with this rad that have no cooling issues. The '67-68 rad will be a bit bigger, yet. Mine cost about $350.

have you looked at summit racing for there radiators... i think you can specify the width and it is about $180.

I got my griffen from streetortrack.com with the modified bracket so it sits farther back for a bigger electric fan. I have top right bottem left inlet/outlet do to my front cover and march pulleys.

summit sells Northern radiators as their in house brand. The have a good reputation and there are a lot of guys using them with excellent results. check out summit pn 380325, its a 19x26 crossflow unit, sells for $170 because its universal. Pass. side lower hose, drv side upper hose. You'll have to fab some easy brackets for mounting, but no biggie. I know some guys with serious builds using this radiator without ever breaking a sweat. I just bought one myself (christmas from me to me, lol), it will be installed the day after christmas.

Dang it... I've looked under so many hoods for some reason I'm having a brain fart trying to remember where the stock ports are on my radiator!! Here's a question... is there any size difference in the radiator for the ones that have coolers and the ones that don't. I ripped the C4 out last spring for the T5... and it might be a silly question... but knowing my luck!!

LMan... no don't care about appearance... as long as it don't look hack. I think I'd like to keep the ports same as stock just for replacement hose purposes?

SoCal... do they have a website?

definately go with a crossflow radiator, they are way more efficient because the water has to travel further though the fins(more time to cool). The stock style down-flow radiators don't work as well, especially when the hoses are on the same side. If you want, look into a double pass crossflow radiator, your inlet/outlets will be on the same side, and the coolant has to travel twice as far though the rad before it can re-enter the engine.

302 coupe: it makes sense that crossflows work better, but how do the stock down flows work? I mean, the coolant flows in and out the same side, so how does the rest of the radiator ever see coolant? Excess pressure? Does that coolant ever circulate?

Radiator

I looked at them all. Went with Ron Davis Racing Products. Super rad, looks like a million, made of sturdy aluminum, can be had w/fans and shroud. I would buy Rons rad again.

i have a Summit(Northern) thats bigger then my stock size Be Cool,cost less and works better,but i needed to do some cutting to make it work

Not sure if it will help much, but here is a pic of my Northern 19x26 radiator with the auto trans cooler. It is in my 70 mach and BARELY fits between the frame rails. The radiator actually measures 27.5" long and yes, it is the 19x26 radiator. There is a company called UniversalParts on ebay that sells these radiators pretty cheap if you need one with a trans cooler. Sorry but my engine bay hasn't been cleaned in awhile, its my daily driver and it is 6° outside Just make sure you take measurements before ordering the radiator. I had to move my battery to the trunk (no big deal as i could care less about stock appearance) because the radiator was actually 27.5" instead of 26".
