Just wondering which 5sp tranny (years) would be best for a street duty car?

Thanks,

The newer the better.... So long as it's a T5 ment for a 5.0 I forget the year breakdowns... as some were regular T5's, and the newer ones are "world class T5".

So are you saying a new T45 wouldn't work?
Would a TKO 500 or 600 work?

T45 = integrated bellhousing, mod motor only
TKO500/600 works. 94-98 V6 T5s are V8 units with most Cobra upgrades, but like 94-95 5.0 T5s, they are 1" longer than Foxbody units (bell and input shaft can be swapped, thats what a lot of vendors did with the excess V6 T5s). 86.5-on is all world class, and they got stronger gears for 1990. Avoid 4cyl like the plauge. T5z aftermarket unit is 330ftlb rated.

Go with the T5 if you aren't going to have a too strong of an engine like steel1212 said. If you want to go TKO you are going to have to hack up the tranny tunnel to get the proper pinion angle. Lots and lots of work, definitely no for the faint of heart.

all 85 up T5's are world class T5's. use a V8 T5 as stated, and if you can get one from 90-93, but any V8 T5 from 85-93 will do just fine. grab the bellhousing also and change over to a cable clutch.

Thanks for all the help.
I'm running about 340hp at the fw then I have NOS on it as well. But I'm in the works for a 331/347 stroker. Just talking to the builders now.

Thanks again.

I like the TKO 500 I have. If you are planning on 400+ HP plus juice you may want to step up.....

I went with a T-5z, so long as you don't beat the hell out of it, it should last a bit. Sticky tires and powershifts are what kill T-5s. I will wait for it to blow and then just buy a G-force kit probably. If you have the skill and time to hack up your tranny tunnel I recommend TKO, that is the tranny that I originally wanted, unfortunately the proper pinion and drive train angles can't be achieved without surgery. Despite what people say that it may work and what not, it is done incorrectly and will lead to negative results.

Kwkenf. (Old School here from the GTA Board)

I went with a Brand New T5Z from ford Racing in my 66, has the 2.95 first gear. It's great (cost 1800 CDN). My buddy went with the rebuilt T5 out of a 91 V8 stang. Cost him 850. It has the 3.31 gear in it, better for a slow speed traffic, but he's gotta shift sooner then I (3.73 rear gears)

Either one seem to work well, the NEW tranny only has about 1500 miles on it, and is a little notchie. We found when we did the installs that they fit WELL any larger tranny like TKO series would require some serious floor massaging or inventive ways on getting the pinion angles set correctly.

We are still having Pinion angle issues with our current cars. He is using the tubular cross member and I'm using the Driveline one. They both seem to fit/have same issues. The holes, in the floor, where the shifter comes up need to be ground out about 1/8 th of an inch on his 1/4 in on mine (front and right side)

good luck either way, it is a FANTASIC upgrade!

EDIT: You better bring 200shot next season.... your toast LOL j/k

Anyone have experience with these guys?

Looks like a beefed T5 for decent price. Rated at 450HP and 330 ft lbs of Torque with a warranty.
