I am looking for a new air intake and I have found a wide range of prices but dont know which one is best. Are the ones on ebay that are really cheap good? Like this one

Although I've never had one, I've heard that the UPR's don't rust because they're made from aluminum or some crap.

My BBK is just fine.

I have heard that a stock box with the silencer removed is just as good as an aftermarket one, there was a site that actually tested this and i belive the diffrence was only 1-2 HP, not worth the money IMO.

Sorry can't remember the site, try googling it

Basically a waste of money unless you want the bling factor. Some of them have fitment issues.

Stock system is already a cold air system, just remove the silencer.

I also have the Moroso CAI kit. It's black and plastic and has a big ass filter that goes into the fender. My car runs, so I can't complain. It was also cheap if I remember right.

Let's review. As someone else already pointed out, Cold Air Intakes aren't worth hardly anything IF anything at all horsepower wise. I saw the same dyno test results as another person in this thread, your better off spending a similar amount of money on underdrive pulleys, at least they are documented to make a modest increase in power.

One of the only lifetime guarantees in the automotive aftermarket is if it's cheap and a non name-brand than you're probably going to have issues with it at some point.

I know there wont be any gains in horsepower. If any there would be less since polished or chrome absorbs heat more than the plastic tubes. The intake I have looks like crap right now esspecailly after I dropped a new 302 and painted the engine compartment gloss black. The CAI I have now doesnt even mount to anything and just rests on the edge of the engine compartment. So is it worth it to spend the extra $100 to get the BBK or Moroco than the cheap ones on ebay or should I just wait and get some pullies or headers or something that will actaully improve performance.

well if its just looks then i guess you might as well go with whatever looks best. The Moroso one that i have for example is just black plastic and it is only the first elbow....still uses the top factory rubber hose. IMO the cheap ebay ones are alright. I bought a black-chrome one for a friends F150 and it has held up just fine. The problem with them is that it comes with a shoddy 'dry-filter' that doesnt clean good (wont last forever), unlike the better ones where your paying for a good high-flow filter that is oiled and can be reused again and again

heres the one on the truck....all looks
It would be way better with a quality filter

It's behind your air box where it goes out of the engine bay.

I found the article http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2002/03/coldair/index2.shtml

" It is pretty conclusive that the aftermarket conical filter, relocated to the fenderwell, offers absolutely no performance advantage over the stock air box fitted with a clean K&N panel filter.

Both the stock air-box and the Moroso kit pick up air from the same source -the right fenderwell. So the quality of air entering the engine is not changing.

In the long run, the conical fenderwell elements may even prove to hinder power due to the accelerated rate at which they get dirty and clogged with dirt kicked up under the fender."

"Other than space savings, we found no gains in performance from the fenderwell type air filter system."

To find the silecer, remove the air hose from the airbox, remove the top cover, unbolt and remove the bottom of the box, and you will see a black tube sticking out of the fender well, there may be bolts holding it in, just reach under the fender and twist it out.

In addition to gaining 1-2HP you will also have a nice roar coming from the intake that will be very noticible if you have stock mufflers.

Lots of cars have these, and removing them can help end the hairdryer sound common with toyota trucks
