I will be installing a 393 stroker in my 1970 Mach 1. I have a mechanical water pump and fule pump. I have dual electric radiator fans. I plan on installing a good stereo system but nothing too crazy. I was wondering which alternator to use. I was thinking about a 130amp unit. Which brands have you guys used and what amp alternator would you use for this combo? Thanks.

Use a Ford 3G. Most of them are 130 amp and they are easy to install.

Powermaster makes a good upgrade One wire alternator and it gets rid of the external voltage regulator mess.

The Ford is also internally regulated and is better then a 1 wire alternator because of the voltage sensitivity instead of just producing output based on rpms.

Where do I find information on the Ford 3G? Where can they be purchased? Will the 3G mount like the original 1970 alternator?

The 3g swap is so common, just search the classic forum and you will find a ton of info on it. You can get them out of V6 late model Mustangs up to I think 2004 and you can get them on the late 90s Taurus as well. They mount just like a stock 1g does. You may need to helicoil one bolt hole if you don't want to use a bolt and a nut to holt it on. Thats what I did on mine.
