which CAI

Im looking to put a CAI on my stock 97 gt. I found one made by BOMZ on ebay for like $40. Anyone ever use one? Should I get this or spend the extra cash on a Densecharger or BBK or something?

umm....none (unless you just really want one for the looks) dont expect to get a huge gain from one. a drop in K&N is just as good just go buy a K&N at autozone and buy a catback exhaust system.

i got a K&N FIPK and it does make a noticeable difference in sound and acceleration in my opinion when paired with a performance tune. I'm just saying this from personal experience. if you want a cold air intake though, i recommend the K&N FIPK, it's got a plastic intake for colder air, chrome intakes heat up pretty easily.

I have the K&N FIPK and share the same opinions as the above stated. Also, Trinity_GT gained 9+rwhp with the addition of a simple K&N FIPK cold air kit on a bolt-on GT.

I just bought a Demolet unit and hope to get it soon, I popped for the matching dark shadow grey paint and carbon fiber trim.

I hope it looks sweet. Supposedly nice gains too, at least according to their website. Who knows really though.

Yep, 9.3rwHP and 6.3 ft-lbs on an otherwise stock setup.

can water get into those intakes that tuck into the fender??? I mean if it rains wouldn`t the wheel be throwing water up there???

no, the plastic inner fender keeps it safe...the filter is actually very well protected up inside there...

i have the BBK setup only because i got it for a good price from a friend...mostly i like it because it looks good and makes a cool whoosh sound when i step on it...gains generally are minimal but it is possible to gain a few hp out of one...removing your air silencer and putting a K&N or Fram AirHog in your airbox will work just as well

Was the air/fuel ratio corrected before and after each run, so that the gains were not b/c of a slightly leaner condition?

I had a buddy in a celica with a fenderwell kit that sucked up water and he had to ge a new engine, but never heard of it happening on a mustang.

get the one you think looks the best ! they dont do much at all if that is the only mod. I went with the BBK fender mounted unit. .

Sadly the AF setup was down the days I dyno'd it so I don't actually know what the AF was before or after. It's a good bet that at least half the power gain came from leaning it...

Exactly my thoughts. Carbon Fiber = price jack. Why is that crap (carbon fiber materials) so expensive?

well you could just get the elbow if it suits you(so the cost wont be $500).. and a good thing about carbon it wont heatup like any of the metal ones will in stop and go traffic. truth be told i just came back from steeda, i just bought the elbow. .
