I OWN A 2000 V6 STANG AND HAVE CHANGED THE CLUTCH AT 69K. I AM NOW AT A 99K AND TO REPLACE IT AGAIN. MY 1ST MISTAKE WAS CHANGING IT OUT WITH A BORG-WARNER(FORD OEM). AND NOW IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO EVEN GET INTO A GEAR. ESPECIALLY 1ST,2ND,SOMETIMES 3RD AND REVERSE. ALSO, MY TOB STARTED MAKING NOISE AND SQUEELING LIKE 3 WEEKS AFTER I GOT THE NEW CLUTCH INSTALLED. IF I CHANGE THE CLUTCH AGAIN..CAUSE IT MAKES SENSE THAT WHAT IT SOUNDS IT WOULD BE . HOW DO I KNOW THIS SAME PROBLEM WONT HAPPEN AGAIN WITH THE NEW CLUTCH? WANNA KNOW IF ANYONE OUT THERE WHAT WOULD BE A BETTER CLUTCH, KING COBRA OR A CENTERFORCE. I KNOW AND HAVE HEARD BOTH ARE EXCELLENT BUT WHICH ONE IS THE BEST FOR THE MONEY. THANX

PS- I NEVER REALLY HEARD OF SPEC BEFORE, UNTIL I JOINED THIS SITE PLEASE HIT ME SOME INFO(THE CAR IS GONNA BE A DAILY DRIVER AND SOME VERY MILD STREET RACING AND HARD DRIVING SOMETIMES. THNAX AGAIN PEOPLE!

I have a centreforce, but I'm having the same problem gewtting my car into first and second gear grinds sometime now, not sure if its clutch related but this all took place after the clutch change, and I have an adjustable clutch cable and firewall adjuster as well, which doesn't help. and the centreforce TOB started to squeel 2 weeks after it was put in as well.

I would go with SPEC like 77 said.

my girlfriend just had the exact same problem with her 98 v6. she had a centerforce clutch in hers and it did that. she just had it replaced with a stock ford one again last thursday. man that thing was ugly, the disc had all sorts gouges in it,where you could see bare metal it had turned blue from heating up so much. the pressure plate had all sorts of gouges and burn marks on it. and the weights had fallen off when the transmission came out

spec is fine but do NOT use their stock throwout bearing buy an oem ford, and if you are wise you will replace the pilot bearing, throw out bearing, fork arm, pivot ball stud, resurface the flywheel, and inspect/replace the bearing retainer, finish up with a spec on the slack of the input shaft and check all the seals.

1 its a ford so the throw out bearings always makes noise(friend has an 04 Gt and his makes noise). why are u needed to change out your clutch so often??? i would just go with a stock or stock style clutch... a spec, centerforce, and king cobra are ment for cars with alot of Power, so unless you have a blower and running nitrous you shouldnt need one. its just gonna make it a pain the ass to drive everyday. i wouldnt recomned the street racing either, but thats your choice

my .02.....

That is really wierd. Recently my car has been giving me problem with first and second. Reverse occasssionally, Ironically i was taking my car to the shop tomorrow. I am worried it the tranny again, i just had a rebuilt tranny put in and a stage 1 luke clutch. Worked great till about a month ago??? I have driven manuals my whole life, never had weird problems like this. I'm thinking its those 5hitty worm drive gears they put in the new tranny's. They cant take nearly the abuse the old conventional's did. I never thought a clutch could cause this problem though??? If anyone else has any other educated input, let me know. Seems to only get to be hard shifting when the car is warmed up to operating temp. No problems when its cold though..
