Hey guys, now that I got my tranny I need to purchase a clutch. I am not sure if I should get a stock replacement or what. I would like one that could hold more power I suppose, but I don't what a real stiff one. My King Cobra in my 5.0 is a real b**** in traffic. I have actually had to pull over before to give my freakin leg a rest. :nonono:

How much Hp should a stock clutch hold up to and where should I buy it, from Ford?

BTW I did a search but did not find anything from the 2.3 Forum. Most 5.0 guys say the King Cobra.

If your arent going crazy with your car try a stage 2. Definatly avoid centerforce D/F if you dont like a stiff clutch. i have a Spec Stage 2 in my car. The peddel is not too stif. I like the soft engagement not like the centerforce which was real grabby.

But i recomend getting other opinions as well

for a 2.3? You're gonna be hard pressed to see clutch slip even with a POS. Get a stock replacement.

mine had a broken spring in the disc, so I was gonna buy a new one from NAPA, but they tried to sell me some MADE IN CHINA deal and when I interrogated them they said that was the only one they had available. So I stuck it up their ass.

So try Autozone etc. or just get one from FORD

If you read his sig he is going to go turbo.. Depending on how crazy you are going to go with the turbo you may want to do the clutch accordingly. Scott's (S&R Racing) site has about the best prices on the Spec clutches http://www.s-rracing.com/ You will hear good and bad about the different clutches out there but many people use the Spec stuff with good results and you can get 4 different stages for your future power needs..

I have heard so many good things about Centerforce DF and I think that is the way im goin. my friend with a turbo Pinto told me too. :nice: not sayin that yall are wrong just tellin ya what im doing. probably dont care but oh well

pat

I am a little leary about getting a Spec clutch. Most people on this 4.6 thread said that a lot of Spec clutches are great, but a lot of them just suck. They said your taking a chance with it. I do realize though that most of these guys are putting out more horsepower than I would ever get out of my engine though. http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=487644&highlight=king+cobra+clutch

My80, is $240 really a good price on a clutch? I got my KC for about $160.

I believe that thread also said some bad stuff about Centerforces also. I dont know, it seems like you take your chance with just about every brand.

Should I just get a stock one? Its only like $120 at Autozone.

Anyone else??????????

Like I said you will hear good and bad about all the clutches and as for the price for the Spec I guess you could buy it from Spec
http://www.specclutch.com/specMain.html the stage 3 is $319. It's a good price if you ever decide you need to run on slicks with 260+HP. It really depends on your hp intentions, what are you looking for with this car?

If you do go turbo and do a few little mods and take it to say 230-240HP at the most then the stock 9 1/8 clutch with the bigger Turbocoupe flywheel will be suitable. But if you have intentions to do big things with this car in the near future I would do it once and not worry about it again. :D

Honestly alot people may say bad things about the AZ clutches and "should" have bad things to say since I'm on AZ clutch #3. I have had great use out of the first stock replacement and the one I have now. At my power level(or lack of) plus the slicks, plus me using the clutch like a 2step to build boost before a launch :nonono: I was asking a whole lot out of a clutch. It would probably continue to work fine if it weren't for the nitrous. If you have bought one at all yet I might suggest an upgrade if you plan to pick up more power.
