Which Intake Manifold Holley or Typhoon?

I have heard good things about both intakes. I have heard that the Holley is a good flowing intake. I have heard that the Typhoon is good, but it is a knock off of the Edlebrock? Also, rumor has it that the Typhoon is rough around the edges and some people have had to smooth out some of those edges with a dremel or grinder? Which one should I buy with Edlebrock heads, not sure of the exact name, and a 70 mmm TB. Oh yeah, which TB should I get a 65 mm or 70mm and which company? This wil be combined with shorty BBK header and an off road H pipe along with a mass air conversion. Thanks!

I have heard too many bad things about the typhoon. Go with the holly if you have to pick one of the two. Or just get the edelbrock. The edelbrocks finish and fit is flawless.

whats yoru car run? how did you like the power gain when you slapped on those thumper heads? was it completely noticable, did you expect more? i want a set of his heads and i'm kinda saving up for them, but i want a real life testimorial. thanks fanatic.

The Systemax is a bit much for that setup (I would go with that if you are adding boost)...but if your willing to pay for the price of the Systemax I say "splurge" and get the Performer or Performer RPM intake over the Typhoon...

Ha ha, you had me going there, since that question looked like the exact question I have, and those parts are the same parts I just got, until I figured out who you were and that you were asking the question for me! Thanks, lol.

For further clarification, I have been told to go with a 70mm TB, since most intakes are made for that anyways, it should not be an issue. The heads I will be using are the Edelbrock Performer 1.90, so I was looking for an intake that could feed some air to those things. I really want to keep the budget down, and the Edelbrock intake is just too expensive. The Typhoon looks like a decent knockoff, but the quality concern comes into play. And I have not even looked at the Holley yet. Any other intake suggestions are welcome as well. I am just looking for something that flows decent for a good price, does not have to be the best on the market or anything, this is for an N/A car.

The Holley cost more than the Performer ($500)...

I wouldn't go any bigger than a 70mm TB, problems can arise if you try to go bigger like part throttle bucking, loss of throttle response, and lower end torque...

Good Luck

Those intakes are to different to compare. You should be camparing the Systemax to an Victor 5.0 or RPM ll. For your set up I would go with the Typhoon, have one on my car and works great. Like said before, if you are going to add a blower later get the Systemax.

The typhoon is a little rough around the edges from what i hear but it is nothing a dremmel can't fix. It is a good intake and a good deal for the price. Unless you are putting down some big numbers i would invest in a Typhoon.

I run the typhoon and out of the box it fed my car enough air no problem. The intake makes power in the mid and upper, which is where my combo was put together to make it...so for me I was an easy pick. I had an Edlebrock RPM but pulled it to fix helicoils (yes edlebrock has quality issues..every company does) and was made an offer I couldn't refuse. End of it is the intake works FANTASTIC for me..cheaper than a new Eddy, and is the first thing noticed when the hood goes up (polished version). The intake will suit any mid to high RPM combo well up to 300-320 RWHP as well as any intake on the market. Each intake has its nitch, and this one does as well..The Eddy may be better, but the $$ I saved paid for my 65mm Polished TB..which has also given me no problems at all.

Buy a used intake and save some money.

Used intakes are far and few between right now for some reason, perhaps I am just not looking in the right places, but I don't see anything out there used right now that interests me.

On another note, I heard that you port stock lower intakes and claim some very good results from it. I am curious about this, like what cost would be and what type of upper intake I should run, should I be interested in going that route.

PM TMOSS, run your stock upper. Like I have been saying. For 2 years.

Well the Edelbrock or Typhoon will match up much better the Holley with your currents heads. Based on your mods it would be a better choice as well.

I had to do some pretty decent work to a customers Typhoon to get it to my liking, but he picked up the polished set under $500.

not to whore the thread but does anyone know anything about the new BBK intake manifold?

Pick up the May issue of 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords... they have a dyno comparison between the Stock Manifold, BBK SSI, Eldebrock Performer gt-40. Performer, trick flow street. The BBK SSI faired quite well.
