i was wondering wut kind of exhaust setup is better. im thinkin of goin mac Lt's to h-pipe to cat-back. is mac better than bbk? also is it worth it to do long tubes? I'm also thinkin about a new clutch because the one in my car now is a peice. ive heard a lot about spec but their are so many choices out there can u guys lead me in the right direction?

what mods do you have right now? do you have other plans for the car mod wise? that will kinda determine what your car will need as far as longtubes and shorties go. also if you have to pass an emissions test, that is also something to consider. longtubes will be more work to install but will ultimately make more power than shorties. shorties will be easier to install. the difference between unequal length shorties and equal length shorties in terms of power output will be minimal. i have bbk equal length shorties right now that i got really cheap used and in my experience they were not too difficult to install and despite what everyone says about them, i have plenty of sparkplug access and have not and will not have any burned plugwires. i cant tell you which brand between bbk and mac is better because i have never had mac headers. macs have individual flanges and bbk is one thick flange. ive heard good and bad things about both brands. i also heard a lot of bad things about equal lengths but what i heard and experienced were too different things. im sure you will get one person that recommends one thing that another person will say not to use it.

well so far i have 3.73s, k&n fipk, chip, and an off-road h-pipe. i wud love to turbocharge but that will probly never happen so im thinkin ill do everything thats cheap n give me the most benefit. i kno long tubes gotta sound sick too. wut kind of clutch do u have? i have to get rid of mine n i wanted to get some feedback on other ppls clutches

ive been using my FRPP clutch and its fine.. my bbk catted h and shorties sound great!

Firstly, Welcome to StangNet.

I have some BBK equal length shorties and catted x. To me, they are cheap compared to some of the MAC products I have seen .

From what I understand, the MAC headers use the stock EGR tube. Which is
nice b/c the one I got with my BBK's was too short and stripped the threads .

The most important thing to do is plan ahead. If you plan on doing heads, cam
and intake down the road, I'd go with the long tubes. If you do not plan on
going 'wild' with it, then the shorties will be okay .

Trust me planning ahead will help you GREATLY in the long run.

Mac has the 4 flanges and if you get a used set some times the are a bit warped... i just took my macs off and ut on bbks... i gotta sell these things

thanks guys! also when i drive around for a while then shut it off then restart like 10 mins later while the engines still warm the exhaust will pop if i rev it up. i think it sounds pretty cool but i was wonderin wuts goin on when that happens. it only last like a minute

Of course ... Application should have influence on which direction you go

If going NA ... I'd not be willing to give up the additional low & mid range
torque LT's can give over shortys.

Shortys don't have long enough tubes and the collector is just too small
to promote savaging.

Peak values between them is gonna be pretty close however

So ... since you seem to be looking at a street application

I'd go for all the torque I could get with the LT's
cuz
When talking Street Cars ... IMHO ... Torque is where its at :Word:

btw ... I'd stick with that line of reasoning even if you don't do major
stuff like heads and cam.

The LT's would work really well with a long runner intake like a
Performer, Street Heat, or oem Cobra & other bolt ons

I understand

If you are gonna do the whole h/c/i thing

I feel it is the most efficient use of money to ..........
pick the stuff you're gonna use now ... like those LT's ... that will work great
with your final combo plan.

btw ... I'd consider something with more later technology than
an alphabet cam to run with the newer technology AFR heads.

The match up is just not all that great IMHO since the e-cam
was done up for oem iron heads and their poor e ports.

I have a pair of MAC 1-5/8" long tubes waiting to go into my Stang. They look better quality than the BBK long tubes a friend of mine bought earlier this year. He needed to have a couple of the flanges rewelded on the header tubes to fill in gaps that would have leaked.
Is it worth choosing long tubes over shorties? I certainly think so. Although the LTs are a PITA to install and you'd probably need plug wire insulating boots to prevent the wires from getting burnt, shorties cannot possibly match the LTs for torque. LTs do a much better job of scavenging spent exhaust gases from the cylinders.

wut kind of cam would recommend of course i wud love a nice lumpy lope but its my daily driver for now and want to keep my hp & torgue down low. im basically goin for a street killer right now

Any cam you put in there is gonna lope

I would tell you a custom cam is worth the money ... for the cam alone
but
You also get the experience of your cam guy as well

That experience could save you a good deal of money

Here is the deal ......
You decide what kind of power band you want from your combo
and
Your cam guy can give you guidelines as what combo parts to use
with the cam to accomplish your goals

Other off the shelf cams such as from Comp, Lunati, Crower, etc will
offer cams that I believe would work better than an e-cam

The big companies also offer tech support so you could always
talk to them and then research their opinion on the net for some
unbiased data
