Tryinng to decide what fluid to put in the transmission( Royal purple? Redline?). Having similiar problems with shifts from first to second in cold weather as a lot of others. Oh, and do I have a transmission filter?

What year is your car?

In my T-45 switching from synthetic to type F cured most of my grinding problem, well up until I broke a fork being a dumbass. Bear with me I cant get the words right. Type F isnt as slick as dextron or a synthetic and it seems to help the friction material in the syncros gab a little bit better.

Research online for the correct fill leverl on the transmission you have. I refilled with mobil 1 atf and only filled up to 3.8 quarts.

This helped but the grind is not completely gone.

BTW For the Tremec 3650

I have the same tranny as you (3650). I dont have a 1-2 grind, but I have a 2-3 grind. Tremec recommends syncromesh for their trannys.

my buddy just put something different in his '03 manual, but I forgot what it was called. He said it cleared up what little shifting problems he was having. I'll try and talk to him tonight and find out what it was.

I read that Tremec recommends against synthetic transmission fluids. They said something about the synchronizers being made out of brass and the only thing that will correctly keep them lubricated is mineral based ATF; no synthetic stuff. And keep the fluid level right around 3.2 quarts. I would listen to them and use Castrol Mercon III ATF from wal-mart and call it a day.

Ive always used synchromesh and in 94k Miles on the original t45 i had no issues.

As far as shifting issues on the 3650 there is a TSB to update some of the internals to fix the concern.

Fords TSB for the 3650 says 3.0 liters and that equals 3.166 qts (or 6.339 pints, or 101.45 oz)
