Trickflow street EFI or Edelbrock Performer 5.0 intake manifold. Which one would be better for my SD 5.0L? I am going to use an Accufab 70mm throttle body on the intake. Anybody running either one of these?
Found an AFM article with dyno results. They tested all intakes on the same engine. Needless to say it was not an SD car. Its a good comparison throughout the RPM's.
The Explorer GT-40 makes more HP and TQ 2,200 - 4,000 RPMS. The Performer 5.0 makes more HP and TQ 4,200 - 6,200 RPMS. But the differences were not big between all three. So I have another intake to consider now.
What are your plans for your car? Do you like to drive the street or is it going to be a strip only car. If you do the intake, you will probably want to do the heads (but not the cam on SD.)
You do know it will take a little extra work to get an SD car to run good with mods. (just making sure)
Unless you're gonna convert to mass air, with the kinds of mods you're limited to with SD, the choice between the two you've listed isn't going to make a big difference. I'm with the other poster - if I were sticking with speed density, I'd probably go with a used GT40 variant (Explorer, Cobra, GT40) -- they will perform just as well if not better in the rpm range you're gonna spend most of your time in with the SD system.
I am just looking to make my car perform the best under the SD setup. The car won't be a daily driver and will be used on the track once in a while. I don't think I want to go mass air at this point. I am leaning towards the Edelbrock Performer 5.0 as it flows best in the upper RPM band and only is edge out slightly from idle to 4,000 by the Ford intakes. Thanks for the input.
I am running the stock heads. Had them completety rebuilt and added some roller rockers. Didn't consider upgrading the heads due to SD. The motor is being assembled now so swapping out the intakes won't be a problem.
With stock heads, the heads are your bottleneck to greater flow -- it won't matter which intake you use for the most part -- all the ones mentioned in the thread so far will outflow the stock heads by a large margin. So let appearance, cost and availability drive your decision.
You could have the stockers ported by Thumper.. That way you don't effect the drivability of the car and you can get rid of some of the bottle necks that the E7TE has to offer. This would allow you to take more advantage of your new intake. BTW: you live in the same state as him.
