Both sports are indeed mentally and physically challenging. The only reason I would say hockey is harder is because it involves skating for almost 10 minutes straight (20 minute periods, but taking into account the line changes), which you have to be in top physical shape. Not saying that you don’t have to be for football.

since playing both when I was younger I would definitely say hockey, u are constantly moving around, skating, watching the puck, watching where your going, blocking, dodging blocks etc etc etc. But with football u would catch little breaks inbetween each play, and a play might only go for 30 seconds.

Both are a rough/tough sport. If I had to pick one it would be hockey. But it wouldn't be by much though.

The wife and I go to alot of hockey games and they are never on the ice for 10 minutes at a time.

I think you need more endurance to play hockey but you need more strength to play football. Football is physically tougher and harder on your body. In football you are getting good hits in every play, whereas in hockey you see a few good hits a period.

Define harder...which takes more coordination or which is a more contact oriented sport?

Football has more contact IMO, constantly tackling and overall roughousing.

Hockey has fights but and checking but it's nowhere near the same level of roughness as football.

Hockey on the other hand requires a lot more finesse and coordination, skating forwards and backwards, stick/puck handling, and all that.

I think football is harder on the body than hockey. I bet there are more ruined ex football players than ex hockey players.

let's put it this way, i'd rather play in the NHL than be a running back in the NFL. having to run through a line of five 300lb lineman only to be hit by a 240lb db is much more physically demanding.

Football and Hockey are both very tough and fun to watch, but I think in soccer u have to have lots of endurance. 90 mins of pure running. avg. midfielder can run over 7 miles in a game. But Football and Hockey more rough on Body.
