which stall converter?

I have pulled my motor and transmission out to change a few things and repaint the engine bay. While I have it out I'm doing what I can now to keep from pulling again in the future. I need to know what conveter and stall reating you guys reccommend fo rmy setup. I was thinking a b&m torkmaster, 200 or 2400. Please let me know what you guys think I need to order it. Setup: 66 fastbcack, 289 stock c.r., ported 289 heads, ported perfromer intake, performer camkit, c4, 8" with 3.00 (3.55 coming), 600 cfm edelbrock carb. This is strictly a street car, no racing, no track. I like the b&m torkmaster 2000 because it really fits my budget but I do not want to waste my time and money and want a large stall that I can really feel later.

I was looking at the b&m website and it asks if the c4 is a step case, what does this mean. I know I have a 10.5 b.c., with a 26 slpine input shaft. The guy at B&m was not very friendly when I called so Ill ask you guys. Do you have any pics of a step case versus a another style so i can compare to what I have. I really have to get this ordered asap and need to know what to get. B&M only has torkmasters for step case transmissions. I hope I will not want a higher stall in the future than a 2000-2200

A 2000 stall is only a few hundred higher then stock.My buddy with a 03 Gt and cobra motor runs a 4200 stall and its daily driven.
 
Last year I installed a TCI 2400 stall converter and noticed a little difference in performance. This year I switched to a 9.5" Edge Racing converter that stalls to about 3200 or so. It was more expensive at >$450 but it gave an unbelievable performance increase! I went from high 13's to low 13's. My 60 foots went from the 2.20 range to 1.95. It felt like I added a small shot of N20. But then you are not into racing so you may not care. In my experience you really get what you pay for when it comes to converters.
 
You will probably not even notice a difference in performance with a 2000 stall since it is so close to stock. If you are going to spend so much time removing the transmission to install a converter you should do it right the first time. Many people seem happy with their off the shelf converters but I wasn't. Also, many people don't race, but I do.
While my TCI converter did stall to 2400 it was a VERY large and heavy converter. Not only does my Edge converter stall higher but it measures a few inches smaller in diameter and it is WAAAAY lighter. When transmitting power to the ground quickly it is easy to see that having that much less rotating mass will make for quicker tire burning launches.
I called Edge and gave them the specs on my car and they recommended the converter and I couldn't be happier.
Whichever converter you decide to get, go with a GOOD large transmission cooler at the same time because the extra slippage will create extra heat.
 
With those stock heads, performer intake and cam your engine will not be able to breathe at high rpm. I would still go higher than a 2000 stall.
For reference: my 268 cam only wants to rev to 5800 so I have been shifting in the 5700-5800 range with my 3200 stall to run consistent 13.2's.
 
Flash stall ratings are just guidelines, a particular part will stall differently behind two different engines.The performer cam/intake is pretty mild so i would not go above 2,800 with them. But at the same time I would not go below 2,000. The point I wanted to make is that a converter rated at 2,000RPM might actually stall sooner behind a mild motor. So I'd go with something rated higher if I were you. I put a 2,800 behind my 357W, it is built more for torque than for hp, kind of like yours. Had I gone more for hp and high RPM I'd have probably gotten the 3,200 TC. A buddy of mine has a 3.2K TC in his mildy modified LS1 and that thing screams. Also consider, the looser you go the more mileage you lose and the more heat you generate, consider an external cooler if you go above 2.5K or so.

I've got a new-in-box TCI "Break Away" converter rated at 2,400 that I don't need or want.
