Hey Everyone!

I am finally dusting off my Cobra and treating her to a fresh set of rubber. I need some direction on what tires are good these days. I have not bought performance tires since probably 03, but those BFG KDWs are pretty much Tijuana Slicks now...

I want a tire that has tremendous grip, and I dont really care if it doesnt last extremely long. I only put about 2k miles per year on the car, so i would rather they wore out before they became rock hard from being old. I don't really care too much about wet traction, the car doesn't see too many rainy days.

I am looking at the Kumho Ecsta XS. Anyone have any input on these tires? I am not finding a lot of tires I really like in a 275/40/17. It seems to be quite the dying breed of tire sizes, but i'm not about to go buy a set of 18" wheels...

Any other tires you can recommend for under $200 each?

I have the Nitto 555s and they are relatively grippy. I can imagine that the drag radial version (Nitto 555Rs) would be even better. I have no idea how they compare to other tires, though. I'll (probably) have a set of the 555Rs on my car in a couple of months.

how much power is the car making?

MT or the new Toyo Proxes TQ are great DR's, Kumho is a standard street tire, and a cheap one at that.

BFG KD's. Under $200 a pop that size. I would have got them, but my car is a DD and rain would scare me.

I have bought nothing but BFG's. I have run other tires, just didnt buy them. The KDW's have been the best so far, and the KD's would be even stickier.

Nitto NT05's in the front. Nitto NT05R's in the rear. You can also do the 555 and 555Rs (which I currently have), but if you're only putting 2K/year on them, get the NT05's.

BFG KDW's the new ones sometimes refered to as BFG KDW 2's but BFG is or soon to be discontinuing the old version of this tire.

BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW 2

These are by far my favorite set of tires. The technology thats progress with some tires in the last 2 years is amazing. The newer tires are definately better. This is why Nitto went to the drawing board to make a street and drag radial to exceed the 555 and drag radial 555R. It is the Nitto NT 05 and NT 05R

Nitto NT05 tires listed by size

I have owned....

Khumo ASX (All-Season extreme tires)
Khumo MX which is a better tire than the XS you mentioned. And was definately disappointed for the fact it was Khumo's best summer tire and well it performed like a normal tire
Nitto 555
Nitto 555r's

The BFG KDW2's are the best tire I've ever owned and will buy more over the years unless I buy the Nitto NT 05 (which tests have shown this tire does have really good wet traction.

Again these are tires you can find budget in mind. Less than $200 a tire for 17inch wheels.

If your rich and money isn't an option. Michelin Pilot Sports definately

Sorry just noticed your not concerned with rain.

I would go with either of these options....

Nitto NT05 (Is kinda like a drag radial that can handle rain and tread can be shaved)

Nitto NT05R (Same tread pattern as NT05's but drag radials)

Michelin Pilot Sports - I think they make 7 or 8 on there max performance summer line (Reason you don't hear of to many people that actually have these on there mustangs is because they can't afford them) This is a tire I would run a Ferrari

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 not the F1 GS (not as good of a tire)

Goodyear Eagle F1

BFG g-Force T/A KD

BFG g-Force T/A KD SSS

KT or MustangLife,

How long do the KDW-2s last? The main reason I like my Nittos is how long they are lasting, along with the fact that they hook pretty well also. I've got 20,000 miles out of them so far with really hard driving, and definitely see getting at least another 20,000 out of them. Do the KDWs last that long? If so, I may look into getting a set next time I have to buy tires, as everyone seems to have good things to say about them. Not to mention they are a bada$$ looking tire as well!

BFG KDW2s are the best tire I have ever used. Incredible grip in wet and dry conditions. Only down side is road noise, apparently... but who here can hear their tires!!!

Personally I'd spend the 600 and upgrade to 18 inch rims.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the nitto 555R. That's what I'd recommend for a 2000 mile per year car that very rarely/never see rain. The nitto would give you 3-4 years of service at 2000 miles per year, and definately would have better traction than any of the other tires listed so far.

Your attempt at being comical just failed. I don't know where you came up with the sex and tires analogy or relationship with me, but it is stupid. If somebody ask for a recommendation, I give it.

If you have an issue with me, take it to a PM

So far Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s have been my best. Sticky and could take a 270* off ramp at full speed while the GTI behind me had to slam on his brakes for the same off ramp. (Tried to **** with me but lost) But not at the track with a supercharger, they still spin too. I'm getting ready to try the BFG KDs (not KDWs) for daily driving and some DRs for the track.

"keyboard Ninja"... LOL! I'm sure he's just tired ("tired"?) of some of the stuff we've heard here in all the long years we've been members (I've actually been a member since the beginning but had to change my login name). I'm sure it's all good...
