which trans do i need

will a c-4 out of a 70 model fit my 66 289 or will i have to change driveshaft lenth. i have a 6 bolt bellhousing. will i need a small bell housing trans or a big bell housing trans. its all factory with a green dot c-4 cruise-a-matic .

Yea, it should fit. Measure the length, but I doubt there's a change there. You'd also want to retain the 157 tooth bell.

Lots of questions.

Like D. Hearne mentioned it should fit.
You'll want the Small block bellhousing. Not sure if the C4 ever came behind a big block.

i was just asking because on summit on the tci trans it says that for the 289-302 it askes if pan filled or case filled and big and small bellhousing

Pan fill was the 69-later 164 tooth bell C-4 also referred to sometimes as a C-5. This is a heavy duty unit used in the bigger cars, trucks and vans. There were 3 size flexplate C-4's, 147 (Mustang II only), 157 and 164. You want the 157 tooth case fill transmission. I'm not 100% sure but you're present bell should fit it. If someone else knows, speak up.
