Which Transmission with Crate Engine?

I'm purchasing a 345hp Ford Racing Crate motor. My first choice for a transmission is the Tremec TKO600 . I have a T-5 currently. I'm thinking of buying an upgraded T-5 with 330lb. tork capacity from D&D Performance to save myself some money. http://www.ddperformance.com/
My car is street legal, not a daily driver, mostly used for drag racing and short drives. The crate motor has 305 lbs. tork. Do you think the upgraded
T-5 will hold up or should I go with the Tremec. The TKO would handle any upgrades of horse power for sure, but after what this will cost ,I won't be doing any spending for quite a while.
Thanks

Ford is known to underate horse power, not over rate.
I really think it is unlikely that Ford Racing would state a specified horse power rating that is inaccurate. And I'm sure the equipment thay have to rate horse power is much better than the dyno's at Joe's Garage down the street.
So let's see. Who should I believe? You, your friends, the internet, or the company that manufactures the cars that we drive?
I think I'll stick with Ford Racing.

277 RWHP is what I come up with when subracting 20% in drivetrain loss. I don't think it's a matter of FMS misrepresenting anything but more a case of folks expecting to get those advertized power ratings at the wheels.

I would shop around for other options besides FMS though. For the money you should be able to come up with a better combo with a better cam and make more power.

A Superduty T5 will handle those power levels easily. I think a King Cobra Clutch would be a good mate as well as a Spec Stage II.

:stupid: shop around, you will find that you can get more for your money.
If you plan on drag racing your car at some point you are going to mod it more than that little T-5 can handle get the TKO 600!!!

I really want to go with the TKO600, but I won't be inceasing horse power for a long time, due to the no more money factor! So that's why I was looking to save some money with the upgraded T-5 for now. I drag raced this past year every weekend with my stock T-5 and stock 302.
I have 10,000.00 to spend on an Engine, Transmission, and Labor. So which set up would you guys reccomend?
Thanks

D&D Performance has 330 tork capacity rebuilt T-5's for 999.00. I don't think you can get the same performance for 3400.00 elsewhere. DSS has a 306 Long Block for 4200.00.

Don't feel bad...
I asked about the same crate a few months ago...
Consensus was to wait and save money for a good motor...
DSS was suggested....

And the GT-40 crate comes with Hypereutectic pistons.. not forged...

Personally... I am too big of a newb to know what that means...

But my good friend Mr. Wikipedia knows different:
" are cast internal combustion engine pistons made from aluminum with over 16% silicon content for strength and durability. The term 'hypereutectic' comes from eutectic. Special melting processes are necessary to ‘supersaturate’ the aluminum with additional silicon content. Special molds, casting and cooling techniques are required to obtain finely and uniformly dispersed silicon particles throughout the material. This produces pistons that are very hard, thus brittle. They have proven to be un-forgiving with engine knocking. For this reason they are great in naturally-aspirated engines, but should be used with caution for 'nitrous', super- or turbochargers. Generally speaking, forged pistons are a better choice for high boost.

Hypereutectic pistons are used in many original equipment engines. They are favored because of reduced scuffing, improved power, fuel economy and emissions. The reduced thermal expansion rate allows the piston to be run with reduced clearance, which reduces losses due to gases escaping past the sealing rings"

Gt40 crate motor isnt a bad motor , it is however overpriced for the HP you will get out of it , I suggest a rebuild of your old motor and then buy some godo heads and do it yourself , I have about 3500 dollars in my combo and with edelbrock RPM heads I put down 292rwhp 314 rwtq in 105 degree heat at 10 degrees timing with a 11 to 1 compression 306 with an X cam , simple combo with a cobra intake and 24lbs injectors , so I am sure my combo will do over 300 rwhp with some better conditions and little more timing in it , so if you cant build it yourself , buy a good shortblock and then go with a better head and cam choice , will probably net you a good 25 or more rwhp over the GT40 engine and trust me its worth it ......PS my T5 I rebuilt myself is holding up great .......

I would have my motor upgraded but, there's a vibration at 4000 to 5000 rpm's. I bought the car a year ago, I don't know what's been done to the engine, my mechanic checked it out and said it had been in an accident, possible bent crank, won't know untill he gets down in there. Who knows. That's why I decided to go with a new crate motor. I don't really know what kind of damage has been done to this engine. I don't want to pay more than what a new one cost to get it fixed and have less horse power than buying an new one.
A short block is a good suggestion. I was looking at the ford racing 347 stroker rotating assembly.
Hypereutectic pistons are no problem unless you are running heavy boost. They are actually a very good piston for naturally aspirated engines.

How about a 351 and the tremec you want, built right a 351 can safely put out nice nice hp and the tremec will handle it. BTW the cobra clutch in my 1988 holds the power fine, but it sure isn't fun in stop/go traffic...

The DSS longblock (at least from the website) looks pretty bare. You would have to spend even more money on the stuff the GT40 motor comes with (flywheel, oil pan stuff, timing cover, valve covers, etc..)

You can get a 306 shortblock for 699.99 or a 357 shortblock for ~ 850 on Ebay. Then get all your "rebuild parts" ie water pump, oil pump.. the basc stuff. Then a TKO600 setup. Then blow what you have left on a good H/C/I and supporting mods. But that is what I would do.

Anyone using a upgraded T-5 with 330 tork capacity with what I'm going to be using? Just wondering how they hold.
Thanks
I'm having a hard time making up my mind on the transmission. I want to go with the TKO600 but I'd like to save some money with the upgraded T-5, but i don't want to buy a tranmission that's not going to hold up. I don't beat the car at the track, being consistant is what I try to do, as you should in et bracket racing, launch at 3000 to 3500 rpms and i don't power shift, i may use slicks though .I have drag radials at the moment.
Thanks again
