In the market to buy a transmission for my 91 GT. I have the following mods listed in my sig. below. What should I look for? I notice there's different 1 st gear ratios and so and final drives. What should I get for a daily driven street strip car that can handle launches on slicks and moderate abuse. Would Tremec be the way to go or what? 6spd or 5spd.? your help would be greatly appreciated. It needs to handle about 450-500hp at the flywheel.

I have a TKO500 with 26 spline input shaft and 517rwhp. It seems to handle fine so far. I run drag radials in street but haven't been to track with it yet.

The Tremec's are the standard way to go when drag racing, at least when you want reliability. The Viper/Ford T56 from D&D Performance http://www.ddperformance.com is very strong too, providing better gearing over the Tremec's, but it is costly.

If you want an AOD transmission that is bullet proof, allowing your car to be very consistent on the track, call Lentech. They sell many different automatics including all the AOD variants. http://www.lentechautomatics.com

Better gearing? That all depends on a number of things
