Which turbo can get me to my goal.

As I have posted before, I want a stroker 347 with forged internals, dart block with a 9.5:1 compression ratio for the turbo. I know my combo will put out between 350-400 rwhp, I want to know what single setup turbo can get me into my goal of 850rwhp? This won't be my daily driver, but I still want to keep my a/c, ps, and the smog is already out of there anyways.

more than turbo size, you are going to look into what standalone EMS you want. fast aem haltech etc etc

just go on a turbo website and look at what hp the turbos are rated at

This kit seem pretty decent. Wouldn't buying a kit be the way to go since it'll be my first. Then later I could start custom making them.
 
HP has been having problems here lately.

B&G Custom Turbo kits are doing well, Cartech is back in the game as well.

A nice turbo kit with a T70 or (prefereably) a T76 will reach your goal of 850rwhp with the right amount of boost.

Not sure what your tuning system and fuel system is like. Your going to need at least a 72lb injector, probably 83lb injector to handle 850rwhp. You will need a big fuel pump along with big supply and return lines. A standalone tuning system will be a great addition as well. A FAST, DFI, or AEM will be great, a PMS could get the job done.

Sounds like you've done some hw but there is a lot to go. First I'd look to lower the compression some more, to atleast 9 if not 8.5. To achieve 850rwhp, its gonna take no less than a 70 with high boost so you don't want any detonation issues with your compression at 9.5. I'd look into a 76 or so. But join Turbomustangs.com if you haven't and research research research. Did I mention research.

I plan on doing a very very very similar set up in a notch in the next few months. I am going to go with the Hellion Power Systems Turbo Kit. It will produce 520 rwhp on a completely stock 302...that is with the small turbo I will be upgrading to the T76 ...combined with the 347 it will produce some HUGE hp numbers I would say no less than 750...there is also the predator kit I forgot who makes it but its a t88 based kit designed for 1100 hp lol..maybe too much. Eitherway I would check out turbomustangs.com and check out the turbo bible to see what kits are in your performance and price range :nice: and definatly look into the Hellion kit jsut search on google. It is owned by bassani so you know it is a quality product!
 
First off, those turbos are rated at a specific HP level based on optimum airflow. Your results may vary. It depends on a lot of things, like which heads, intake and cam you are running. Everything has to be optimized. And you'll have to run a ton of boost - are you ready to run race gas all the time? Because somewhere north of 14-15# of boost, you will have to. And you need that much boost to make that power.

That HP system sounds nice, but a few of the parts are inadequate IMHO - the Bosch bypass iis way too small - I run a Greddy Type R bypass which HUGE compared to a Bosch and it's just adequate. The wastegate is too small IMHO too - I run 2 wastegates one a Tial 44 mm and a 38mm Tial - the 44 by itsefl was inadequate. The other thing HP does is put the 02 sensors WAY too far from the turbo - and it kills driveability - they need to be near or before the turbo.

My guess is you'd need at least a PT88 to get to those power numbers with a bunch of good suppoerting parts - and with a PT88 you will have to run higher boost levels to get it in it's 'sweet spot'. Turbos are NOT blowers and everything has to be balanced or you will be disappointed.

As mentioned above, if your goals are in the 850 range, you would want to look at custom kit, or the Hellion kit (They should offer turbo options that would meet your goal, without going to a large frame turbo, ex: T88)

Or you could run a smaller set of twins, run them on low boost and achieve your goal fairly easy. Twin 60-1's, 62-1's.. or such.
BG turbo makes a very nice set of twin headers/downpipes for an awesome price.. They would work well for what you want to do.
 
To answer some questions, I really wouldn't mind having to use race gas on this car since it won't be an everyday car. I have also read the Turbo Bible and some FAQ posts over at TurboMustangs.com, I'm just reading over there, not posting cause they can and WILL be ssaholes, like I learned in my "I'm a new guy" thread. I was trying to stay away from TT now because I would have to be dealing with 2 of everything. I know the exhaust would be simpler but the connection to the intake, and the MAF is a little more complicated. But reading what you all posted about how big my turbo would have to be, then the twins don't sound too bad. OINK, I was reading the DIY Turbo on you site and didn't think it was all that difficult, of course with the proper tools. I need to reread the bible and those other posts just to make sure I didn't miss anything. Would it be less expensive to buy the kit or to piece it together?
 
Well actually the DIY page on my site was my very first experience with turbos or fabrication.. So the setup was kind of crude, using parts/pipes I had lying around the garage, but damn, it worked great!

Yes, IMO the setups are easy to build if you have the right tools to build them.. Since I've built a few setups already I can knock one out in 1 day from start to finish (8 hours or less), so I do not see why a beginer couldn't do this in a couple weeks. But yes, to answer your question.. most of the time they are cheaper to build yourself, if you have the equipment to do so.

If your serious about this I can work out something for you as far as the hotside pipes, to fit a/c, p/s, ect..
