While H-pipe is dropped...

I got the OEM h-pipe dropped to put in my new magnaflow high flow cat pipe which by the way is a very high quality peice. Full stainless steel construction with 2.5" piping and two high flow cats. I had to go with the H-pipe because the classic muscle car sound is priceless and I don't care about a few 2 h.p. for the x-pipe. I have some pictures that hopefully I can get posted of the pipe...
Magnaflow Exhaust Solutions-Hottexhaust.com had a smoking deal on the magnaflow stuff if you make them an offer.
Anyways, I decided to order an aluminum driveshaft and get that installed because pulling and installing an hpipe on jack stands is a PITA and I don't want to do it a lot.

Is there anything else I should think about replacing while the Hpipe is dropped? I thought about tranny mount, but it still seemed in pretty good shape at 100k miles.

Clutch is good. replace within last 15-20k and it grips great.
While the car was up on the jack stands I did the fuel filter also and I was trying to inspect all the rubber bushing and spring isloators everywhere to get an idea of the condition, it is kind of hard to diagnosis but they seem good.

Check out the bushings on the crossmember mount, you can get polys for around $15.

I got the same pipe for 330 shipped, this was three of four years ago, its a great piece. Its a PITA to get it on the H-pipe mount though.

I hear you....I am dreading the installation of the new H and that is why I am trying to cover all my bases before slapping it back on the car. I will check out the cross member bushings.
As for Poly bushings, I was thinking they may transmit more vibration into the chassis because the poly is usually a harder than OEM rubber..? I thought about a poly trans mount also and then decided to leave it rubber to reduce vibrations.
Maybe it doesn't matter as much on the trans mounting hardware as compared to the suspension.

My magnaflow catted H has lousy sealing around the collectors, beware of that. Id put a bead of silicone in there.

I had a good leak on my first start up; I just tightened it down real good and it hasnt leaked ever since.

When I used to have a Grand National sealing the cross over pipe was always important. A trick I used to use when sealing exhaust pipes was to bolt everything up very loosely and then rotate around to all the bolts and just do a few turns per rotation until everything is seated. Maybe common knowledge but it helped.
I will tighten up the collector bolts real good in anticipation of the infamous leak.
Perhaps, I should just alternate back and forth between the connector bolts and then worry about tighten up the exhaust end after the header section has been fully seated...hmmm?

Yeah, alternate when tightening the bolts on each collector flange so you can get a more even seat on the connection.

like someone else said, change out the bushings in the cross member. my original ones were 7 years old when i changed mine out, and looked like crap. very cheap the new bushing and i would sugest installing them if you got the chance to do it.

Where did you get your replacement crossmember bushings? Did you go urethane or stay rubber?
I might as well replace the transmount and crossmember bushings anyways, both should be easy right now.

im pretty sure they were energy suspension poly bushings. got mine from a local speed shop at the time.

I called Ford parts asking about the replacement rubber bushings and they only sell the crossmember as an assembly, so the urethanes maybe the only game in town if you want to replace the bushings only.
Anyone found rubber replacements for the crossmember bushings elsewhere?

I never seen any stock replacements. I'm kind of particular about where I want poly bushings and where I dont want them. I dont think the poly will do any 'harm' in the crossmember.

You can even go to the parts store and get them special ordered, free shipping.

Glad to hear you got a good deal. My H-pipe looks great, I will be putting it in this next week after our company leaves.

Liquid GT, you are right about the poly bushings in the crossmember, probably no big difference between poly & rubber. I thought about it for a bit and the main trans mount is in series with the crossmember bushings. Plus, the amount of material on the trans mount is way more than the crossmember bushings so I am sure it does most of the damping in the system anyway. I ordered so poly bushings for the crossmember and a OEM trans mount.
