Got a whining noise like its supercharged when i start the car, it also gets louder when i rev it up a lil. when i press in the clutch it stops. I dont know if its the TOB or what the hell it is but its gettin worse. Has anybody any suggestions?

If it stops when the clutch is released, it sound like a definite transmission noise. If the sound does not change when the gears are changed, then my guess would be the input shaft bearing.

It stops when the clutch is engaged and whines when the clutch is released, and as far as when the gears are changed at higher rpm the car is too loud to really hear it. More or less its at idle and driving in 1st at low rpm that tou really notice it. But i'll look into the input shaft bearing. thanx man

old thread

I know this is an old thread but....

I have a similar issue

I just replaced the T-45 transmission on my Car w/ a used T-45 (mine was grinding going into any gear, even 1st or reverse from a dead stop!!). After I installed the used transmission (unkown miles but was pulled from a running car) and drove it around the block I heard a loud whining noise that sounded like the terminator superchargers in first, second and third gears (no noise in 4th or 5th gears). Its loud enough that my brother who was outside of the car heard it over the exhaust as I drove by (I have a Bassani X-pipe w/ high flow cats, magnaflows and dumps). It gets louder and faster as the revs increase in first, second and third gears. Has anyone had this noise...how bad is it (if at all)???

I can get into any gear (no grinding), my clutch feels great (only 20k miles on it, its a Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch)...

Other Info....

3.73 Gears in the Diff (same as before swap), Steeda Tri Axe Shifter (same one on previous transmission)....Also, I did not have this noise before swaping T-45's...so I do not think its the gears....

Any Clues?....Opinions?

I had this on my 90 lx it whined in all gears except 4th because it is 1/1 straight through. You have a bad bearing on the cluster. When those gears are being used it whines or when its sitting in neutral it whines but when you step on the clutch it stops because nothing inside of the tranny is turning. Botton line you can live with it for quite a while or just rebuild its more annoying than anything.
