Whining noise when over 1500 RPMs??????

Does anyone have any idea what this might be
I just got my water pump changed and a few days later my car sounds lik it has a supercharger. I get a whining sound thats pretty loud as soon as i step on the gas whether in gear or not. Im really confused .... me n my friend were tryin to figure it out but no luck. Could it be my belt is going? Bad water pump? Tensioner? ANY IDEAS >>> PLEASE HELP

ps- the car is running prefect no probs there... my temp is fine, basiclly everythin is good other than this supercharger like whine i hear
(oh another thing i noticed my battery meter is over half - btwn 1/2 n 3/4)

mine was making a similar sound, i think it was the air/smog pump

but if it was not making the sound before the new water pump, i'd tend to think it is the new pump

Take the belt off and spin the accessories by hand. Or better yet, while the car is running, put a hose or solid metal rod up to your ear and place it behind the bearing on each engine accessory. It will help you determine where the noise is coming from.

i went to my mechanic turns out it is the smog pump
i wanna just bypass it - what belt do i get???
ps- its safe for me to do this since im not running cats anyway?
