What makes more power, or are the similar?

2011 5.0 with Whipple 2.9 or
2011 GT 500 with pully CAI and tune

I'm going to pick something up as a fun driver, not a track car.
I figure the 5.0 will be 10k less, but with lower resale value and more hassle.
Leaning towards the 500

I know the biggest debate with a supercharged '07 Shelby GT versus a factory GT 500 was weight..

A small block car (Shelby GT) with similar horsepower (once supercharged), to the GT 500.. (big block car).

Now.. that doesn't seem to be the point.

A 2011 GT 500 coupe comes in at 3820 lbs.. I guess because it now has an aluminum block and heads.

Versus:

3600+/- lbs for a 5.0 coupe (plus the supercharger)..

I guess the biggest argument with the Shelby GT versus the much heavier GT 500 was that the small block car handled better, was better on gas, etc...

Honestly, you cannot beat the exclusivity of owning a Shelby/SVT Mustang. If you plan on driving it daily, it might be a bit too much to handle (worrying about where to park it, attention from cops, etc.).

Five years from now, the 5.0 will probably just be a run-of-the-mill V8 Mustang. But the GT500 will ALWAYS be a GT500.. even forty years from now.

All good points!

I had a 98 cobra vert that I added a vortech on. Had it for a few years, and had to sell it since I had no where to keep it when I was living in the city. For what I spent on the mods and resale, I should have just purchased a 03 cobra and had a forged motor.

I think the same will hold true with the new 5.0 vs gt500.

As far as attracting attention, I'll probably order a GT500 with the stripe delete

^ I suppose the Boss will be a monster if you were to supercharge it..

Between the 5.0, Boss, and the GT 500.. you think the Boss is the best?

Boss is a great car, but no Sync!

Boss is a better track car than a GT500 since thermal management is not an issue.

That sucks. Sync is by far one of the coolest options I've had on any of my Mustangs.

guys you can ADD sync to any ford car. the kit is like 400 bucks (or something like that). that engine is AMAZING. its output is almost what the original s197 GT500 put down. c'mon.

True, but when you fork out $40K+ for a Boss, you shouldn't have to add Sync for $450 when the V-6 and GT models have it as an integrated option. A small fail on Ford's part on a Mustang where everything else is win.

have you considered the fact that you'd be paying extra if ford left sync in the car anyhow?

BTW that sync on all the other cars comes with the 3000 dollar more premium package.

Yeah I'm aware factory options costs more but it doesn't make much sense that guys buying loaded GT's ~$33K have factory installed sync and for $7K - $8K more on a Boss you don't.

Plus when you add Sync you have a dongle that you have to mount somewhere as opposed to the steering wheel controls.

the idea of the BOSS is NOT to make a 2010SS camaro. its to make a track/street car. you want luxury get a gt500. you want a kitana get the BOSS and blow it.
