i need a part number for one. my battery is about to die and i went to two different parts stores (O'Reillys and Sears) and neither one could find the right battery. O'Reillys actually gave me one that was too small, then one that was too big. i was pissed after having to take out my stock battery 3 times to no avail. also, can you tell any difference at all between the stock 540 CCA on the motorcraft and the 800 CCA on the Optima?

The one you describe as too small is the correct one IMHO. There should be a little bag of hold downs with the battery. One of them will lock it down perfectly.

Some people have gone with the big one and cut there battery tray. I chose to go with the small one and use the special hold down that came with it.

I can take some pics if you want...

Please do... and what was the part number cause I'm getting ready to buy one too. $139...?

(oh wait... didn't you post one in one of my threads cause I was asking about connectors?)

Sorry I can't give an exact part number, but I know Autozone stocks the battery that is the correct size for the 'stangs. I even used my stock hold down... maybe check there?

You could also check out a Diehard Gold battery, they make one for Mustangs that has more cold cranking amps than the Optima I bought (and I believe it is cheaper)

redtop? if so get the bigger of the two. youll need to slightly trim out some of your stock battery tray but its no big deal. it comes with a new hold down that holds it inplace perfect

Yeah, I kinda wish I had gotten the bigger one and done that. The bigger one looks cooler under the hood. But like I said the small one will also fit with no battery tray modifications.

no part numbers? it will say on the battery. i believe the smaller battery has 720 CCA and the larger has 800 CCA. so both will work? i tried the larger of the two and the bottom lip of the battery was too small and it popped out of the tray holder

it should come with an hold down in a plastic bag thats taped to the battery that will replace the stock plastic piece and hold the optima right in snug.

the larger optima is a tad smaller one way but a bit larger the other way (where you need to trim the tray)

i dont wanna have to trim the tray though. i just want to make sure the smaller battery will still work with the extensions in the kit
