im looking to get a busted T5 trans with a bad input shaft, from what i have seen in diagrams it looks easy to swap (input shaft) but on you tube i see that most that have busted have damage to one other gear that the input shaft rides on, is that 5th gear? is damage to that gear normal from an input shaft failing? i do not have it in my hands and just want to find out what i may have invested in it if i get this one.

That's the counter gear that usually gets busted up along with the input shaft. With those two gone, you are looking at buying pretty much a new gear set along with new bearings. Prob a $300-400 in parts repair. Replacing the counter gear is tearing down the entire trans basically.

You can prob find some good used parts for cheap, but a busted input shaft usually means a major rebuild on a t5 if the counter gear goes alone with it (which it usually does)

Btw...I usually get these sort of blown trans for 0-$50 bucks. Any more and it's not worth it to me. Vie actually gotten plenty of blown t5s for free.

Hes correct last time I priced the counter gear is was a little over $250, plus the $150 input shaft and $200 rebuild kit, and new bearing retainer $125.... If you need parts you should try Hanlon, Bob may have some decent used parts around and I know he has the new parts.

thanks for the info i may pass on it because i can get one ready to run for less money than that, they want $150 for it but it comes with the bellhousing i am going to need to put this car back together. thanks again for the advice, i asked on another forum and you guys have a much better to the point and clear answer!!
