Who has clear-coated engine bay parts?

I can't decide what I want to do with my front acces. and other misc. parts. On my buddies car we sand blasted the brackets and used high temp clear coat. It was a nice clean look with a little shine to it. We haven't put his car back together yet, so I'm not sure if it will stay nice though. Has anyone done this?

Also, could someone give a quick run down of taking the alternator apart, because I want to do the same to that. We tried on my buddies, but he ended up braking some internal parts. If you have to take the pulley off, how do you do it?

Any other opinions would be great.

I cant help you on taking apart the alt, but I CAN tell you that you need an impact gun to take off that pulley.. You'll prolly need something with 200+ PSI impact, and about 100PSI worth of compressor air. It's best to "loosen" it with the belt on it, so it doesnt spin. IF you cant fit an impact gun in there, you can take it off, have someone hold the pulley tight by "choking" it with the belt and then "wrench" it off.

If you dont have the equip, take the alt off and just bring it to a shop and beg them nicely to take it off for you.

I did all my Alum accy brackets like that and hit them with ceramic clear, Dupli-Color hi temp stuff....they will look good for a bit but will Yellow after the heat hits em after a bit, least that was my experience...still better than oxidized Alum...
mine have held up great, no chipping or the like....
powder coating would prolly look better down the road some???

how yellow?? Is it noticable. Otherwise, I bought 500 degree "New ford grey". It might look good. Or I could go with 500 degree "Aluminum". I just didn't want to go with a grey paint, because it wouldn't match my street heat intake. It is hard to get everything to agree with eachother.

i cannot help with any clear coat ? but i took the alt off the car and used an impact wrench. i have had no problems for about 35,000 miles

if you use the high heat Aluminum when you spray it will be real bright like tin foil but if you clear it, it tones it down a lot to a gray like color. still looks good though. thats what i did to mine just the paint alone was to bright for me

I powder coated all my brackets, pulleys and the alt. Looking back I wish I would have just went with a chrome alt. but as they say hind sight is 20/20.

if you change the timing cover and water pump to one off of a 1993 you can find all the polished and clear coated brackets at march performances web site.but no one makes any for 94-95 5.0's.i didnt know this till after i bought and painted a new water pump,so i gotta wait till i get some more loot to do this.but for now the painted stock brackets will have to do.oh yeah i used this new 1300 degree paint that summit carries,painted them flat aluminum with a clear coat and they look very good.

Here's mine a glass beaded.....I then cleared em....

Take a look....this is all you really see after all that work...so much junk you cant see jack in these motors....just make the area around the coil look nice...Its all that shows .....You can see how mine kinda darkened...its 3 ys old too...no oxidation tho, which I like...Just hit it with WD40 to keep it cleaned...
Check out the alternator...Its the original and looks damn new...its only got anti-seize on it to keep it lookin good...ghetto fabulous...

One of these days my engine is going to be spotless... clean of everything, running 110% so I never have to take it apart.

Spending time cleaning up the acc brackets is a complete waste of time, like Andy said, they dont show much. For my alt bracket I polished the top part that you can see, then painted the rest black. Cant tell unless you look for it.

here is a pic of mine.....the intake is different, coil, and some of the pulleys..... it is a chrome powdercoat color looks really nice...I have a friend that just went in the chroming business though so i am soon to have chrome intake,accessories,pullies and anything else i can think of.......

I like everyone else who used high temp or spray can clear had a yellowing after a short amount of time, due to the heat of the engine bay.

Couple of things:

1. you need to paint or clean up those 2 bolts in the PS bracket (or put the little chrome caps on them.

2. Same with the Tx bolt holding in the idler pulley.

3. You dont "chrome" an intake ( I guess unless your car is for show only) you polish it.

4. can you hook me up with your chrome buddy? I may want to send him a few bolts/brackets etc to chrome for me to put on my car.

5. These are just "my" suggestions...it's YOUR car and you do as YOU want.
