Who has done a Jag IRS in their classic 'stang?

Just like the title says. I'm starting to get ideas for my '67. My dad has a Jag rear out of an XJ6 that he's going to give me. I'll have to put an LSD in it, but my main concern is whether or not it'll hold up to 6-700hp. I don't plan on drag racing it more than once or twice.

ford built a 6 irs stangs in the 60's for testing. Don Chambers of mustang country has/had one it's been a while-haven't looked to see if he still does. anyways I do remember seeing a website that deals with this...search this forum you'll find more.

First, I don't think that they will handle that much HP. Second, what year Jag? does it have the inboard brakes? These are very difficult to replace when the time comes. about a 20 hour job I think. Last point, these are very very heavy units.
I get a lot of hot rod people coming into my shop for parts on these. It seems like a pain, that's probably not worth it.

I think Marshall is doing this to his very modified 'vert. I don't think he's posted in a while, the last time I heard from him he was very busy. Unfortunately I don't know the ins and outs of this conversion, but I know of a 1000hp twin turbo'd Jag doing some hillclimbs here in Qld so I'm sure they'll handle the power. Quite common usage in Cobra replicas also.

Well, the brakes ARE inboard, but that also reduces unsprung weight significantly which would make the car handle better.

Secondly, the rear is basically a Dana 44. Lots of rock crawler jeeps use them, so I'm sure they can take a lot of torque. I'm just not sure if they can handle 600ft-lbs of torque.

I have a Jag IRS in my 66. It is from a 95 XJS. As you know, Shelby knew the English knew how to make cars go around a corner but the Americans knew how to make horsepower. He put them together and the legend was born.
Cobras had Jaguar IRS

Here is a pic, will try to find a couple more of it installed..

it is a problem with the current version of the forum, it is supposed to be corrected in the next few weeks, some of the others know how to make it work, but i can't remember how myself

To post pics, upload the pic to the site, then click on the image link in your reply. A new window will open up of your picture, copy the URL from the address bar, close the window of your picture and paste the URL (web address) into the body of the message. That is how I get them to work.
