Who has installed a brake kit from BuyFordRacing.com?

So I finally broke down and bought a bullitt brake kit from BuyFordRacing.com; I go to install them yesterday and the stainless steel brake like leaks on the passenger side where it connects to the hard line. I tried it 3 times and it leaked all 3 - I didn't want to over tighten it so I stopped and used the stockers.

a) has anyone ran into this problem before? Are these good/decent lines?

b) are the stockers safe to use with the 13" brakes?



I tried to call them several times and got no answer, so I emailed them and asked them for my money back for the lines (invoice says they're $59). If they will take them I think I will go for the MM lines....

I have been debating, but I think you can find the kits cheaper else where.

I installed my kit last fall. Both sides were leaking. I tightened some more and still leaking. I decided to keep tightening and see where I would end up.

Well let me tell you I TIGHTENED it hard. Both sides stopped leaking. Hasn't leaked since that day.

I think there were a few people I here that said there lines started leaking when they installed them. Maybe try and tighten them down real good like topless said or just get your money back and get the MM ones. Good luck

Yes, you can use the stock brake lines ONLY if your car is a 99-04 Mustang

In 1999, Ford starting using the same brake lines for the V6, GT and Cobra and Mach 1. One brake line will work with all of the calipers. SO if you have a 99+, you can use your stock GT calipers with the cobra calipers. You may need different pitch banjo bolts however. Just use the ones from the SS kit. They will fit.

If you have a 94-98, you need to get a set of 99+ stock rubber lines as these are what Ford now calls for as a replacement for ALL 94-04 Mustangs

My pass side leaked initially too - I started with pipe dope, but for this side, I cleaned that up and used teflon tape...and tightened the hell out of it - no issue now. IMO, there is nothing wrong with the hoses...

SDame here. Had to tighten them down fairly tight and no leaks and good brakes for the last 10-12k miles. But for some reason after getting my ball joints and outer tie-rods replaced the brakes started squeaking

I had to tighten them down REALLY hard too..

Also, the brass fittings on the hard line were mostly rounded off from the factory.. I bought the car with 6,000 miles on it and this is the first time I've touched the brakes..

Yeah, Im not about to mess up the brass fittings... I will probably order the MM lines.

I had no leak issues with the StangSuspension brand stainless steel brake lines.

If yours are leaking after you cranked them down hard, it sounds like you might not have the right parts.

Just in case you guys didn't know, the brake lines are side-dependent. If you put the driver's side brake line on the passenger side (or vice-versa), it WILL leak. Physically match up the fittings on each new line with the old. If you do that then you'll have no problems.

I've had the bullitt kit from them on my 2000 for about a year now with zero problems, install was quick and simple.

Do you folks even think the rear brakes are worth upgrading?
Will someone share a few pics of there brake upgrade?

The rear brakes do make a difference, but nothing as dramatic as the fronts. There is some performance to be gained by switching from a small 10" solid rotor to a 11.65" vented rotor.

The rear cobra kit is cheap, about $175. The reason most don't upgrade the rear brakes is because you need to pull the axles out to change out the caliper-to-axle brackets for the cobra kit. It's not tough, but it's a little PITA.

Baer does have a 13" bolt on kit that you don't need to pull the axles for, but it's still the same 1/2" thick solid rotor as the stock GT rotor. You really don't need much more leverage for the rear brakes, you just want a nice vented rotor for cooling

Yes, they are on the right side. They even say driver side and passenger side right on them.

Wow, I finally got a hold of someone at BuyFordRacing.com- Complete A-hole. About the only thing he said was the lines they supplied with the kit are the "best in the world" and I was stuck with them. He said if they leak than I installed them wrong.

How hard is it to install a brake line?! Seriously, they are side dependent and I know I had the right side. Is there anything else I need to do? Teflon tape or something that I have never done in the past that I need to do with these?

i would try some teflon tape. make sure the threads are going in correct and not crossthreaded. and tighten it up pretty good

Make sure you're using teflon tape as well.
