A couple of months ago i smacked a curb while leaving the workplace parking lot. The exit has a narrow strip with a curved median. I guess i thought i could make the turn at 45mph anyway i made the turn but it caused a slide and i banged the curb. The car shutoff and wouldnt start back up so i pushed the reset button in the trunk. On the way home i heard a squeak as the wheels rotated. I thought it was just my pads hitting the sensors. I didnt drive it much after that until i took it to get the procharger installed when it was up on the dyno is when i noticed the axle is bent. I know its not the rim because i have 18 in. black bullitts now.

Are factory axles that weak? And what is a good replacement because it seems like since i put the 18in's on the wheels look kind of slanted.

Factory axles are pretty strong, but smacking a curb at 45 would mess them up. I'd take it in . Also the 18's have no effect the shafts. If your wheels are slanted you've got problems that need attention!

Agreed. I can see where that kind of an impact would bend an axle and would also suggest checking other suspension pieces.

As far as replacements go if you intend on racing any at all now is the time to upgrade so at a minimum get some 28 spline forged axles (moser, strange, superior, etc) installed. If you have the money it would be an even better idea to just go ahead and upgrade to 31 spline axles along with a good 31 spline diff such as Eaton, Auburn, etc. I run 31 spline strange axles with a 31 spline eaton and have been satisfied with them.

Good luck.
