my tranny is getting me mad, however there isnt any real problem with the gears them selvs, just it needs the syncros, blocker rings redone, due to sipping out of gear, and grinding. now. Can anyone give me a time estimate on how long it would take me, being my first time, and being a pretty good mechanic.? also, how involved is it? i would love to upgrade the thing, tko, etc but i cant i gotta paint this pig. thanks!

Check the 5.0L tech sections. There are many more people on that board who have done it before.

i've done it, a couple times.........LOL

it's kinda tricky the first time so at least about 3-4 hours if you had to remove the counter shaft i would say a lot more, getting it out of the case is tricky...............you can get a video, and do it yourself without too much trouble there are some speciality tools you would need though.

forgot to add that it sounds like the synchros, are pretty worn.....you prolly should replace the blockers rings synchros on 1-2, and maybe file the burrs off the synchro gears themselves........when you look at the teeth you will see what i mean
