I was thinking of pulling my out, but I want to make sure it doesn't serve a better purpose like keeping the heat down in the engine bay or something etc...

I have no interference right now with it which I know is the main reason people pull them, but it is just plain ugly and parts of it are starting to flake and fall off. I don't think the bare metal underneath it will be any better, but maybe there's a small weight savings as well by taking it off?

Thanks

Jeremy

Its purpose is to try and snuff out the fire if the engine ever does catch on fire. I'm with Joe on it looks ugly without it on there so I'd just clean it up and put it back on.

false.

I removed mine months ago...I was going to clean it and put it back on, but oh well, its not going to be there when I get an aftermarket hood anyway.

My car didnt have one when I bought it  2 traps have been cut-out to get the hot air out I assume.
the two cuts are part of a safety recall. the hoods would seperate across the front edge. so they cut the holes, checked for seperation, and if there was non they would put adhesive in there

The plastic 'pins' that hold the hood blanket in place are engineered to melt at a certain temp in case of an engine bay fire. The pins melt, the blanket falls down and supposed smothers and contains the fire. I'm sure there is a certain amount of noise dampening as well.

if you think about it aftermarket hoods dont come w/ blakets on them so they must not serve to much of a purpose, look at all the stangs running around w/ aftermarket hoods and they dont have any problems

I thought it was the previous owner that cut those holes .. Good to know.

Same here... I thought the person who had the car before me wanted to make his own ram air for the car.

...and ditto again :rlaugh:

I ran into this problem when with the Track Heat intake so we had to remove the hood liner and do a little trimming to get the hood to sit properly. Low and behold there are these two big holes. I'm like WTF ?? This car is completely stock and just like new. I was a little pissed. I thought aboput the previous owner wanting ram air of some sort as well. :rlaugh:

My liner is still on. There's very little weight savings by removing it and since mine is still very clean I like the Pony pic on it anyway.
