This is for the Guys who have taken apart there motor. My vert top motor just died. It has worked since day 1, no problems. I get clicking of both relays and get 12volts out of each one. I have read some threads that some people have taken it apart to find problems. So I took mine out and opened it up. Besides being dirty, I found one of the contacts soldered to a wire and one that was not. There is a bare wire in there, but it looks like it was cut off even, not like it just fell off the contact and there is nothing to solder to on the contact itself. So should both contacts both be connected?

Also If I purchase a used motor, how do I bench test it to make it works?
What should the readings be on the meter?

Thanks

I took mine apart a long time ago and remember having to solder a wire back on somewhere to solve my immediate problem.

After using it with the wire soldered for some time, it began working for 2-3 seconds at a time then stopping (even though the relays would still click). The circuit breaker under the dash went bad, I replaced it and was good to go.

In terms of a new motor/pump, I would highly recommend Tim (PonyPerformance.com). I see them listed for $89 from his site. I have purchased many parts from him in the past without issue.

My pump quit working too. I have another one to replace it with (used, don't know if it works).

Where is the circuit breaker under the dash? I think I should check that before I start swappin' motors right? My switch and relays are good.

My circuit breaker was literally just hanging from a harness directly under the steering column. My car is pretty ghetto'fied, so I am not sure if that is normally where it is located. I will say a previous owner of the car ran power wires to a switch and then directly to the convertible top motor. There was 1 switch for up, one for down... He would operate the top using these autozone cheap plastic switches. This being said I suppose you could run a power wire directly to your motor like this to test it - or just find that circuit breaker :) Mine was a silver 'box' or 'rectangle' with 2 pins.

took mine apart a few years ago with the same problem. turned out the brushes were worn down to nothing. they do have bare wires going to them if i remember correctly. i got a couple brushes from somewhere and used a belt sander to size them to the motor. i know to replace the motor is quite pricey while i couldn't tell you where you could pick up a set of brushes im sure google could and they shouldnt be more than a couple bucks

I don't mean to be seeming like I endorse or work for the guy - I would normally agree replacing the pump is way expensive. However Tim at PonyPerformance.com has them listed for $89.

I have bought quite a few things from him in the past without issue. Once upon a time I bought a window motor, it died within 6 months and he shipped me a new one for free.
