Who have home made Drilled brake rotors

Ernan, brakes are one thing i would NOT do a home brew on (drill them yourself). even machined/manufactured drilled/slotted rotors can be prone to cracking. you dont want to crack a rotor, bud.

I dont like drilled rotors anyhow and feel the risks outweight the possible benefits on a street-driven car.

just my two cents. good luck with whatever you decide, Ernan (BTW, the Seth thing used to really throw me. :) ).

I drilled mine (used a drill press) and they turned out perfectly. The key is to take the edge off of the holes (countersink slightly) afterwards and not drill to close to the edge of the rotor. Now, that being said, I'd think it was more of a looks thing, because I really don't rember the car stopping any better afterwards, to tell you the truth.

yeah i think its just a looks thing too, but they look damn good.

a slotted/drilled rotor stands out alot more then a plain surface rotor. on a street car i dont think the downside of the weakened design is enough of a downfall.

wasnt enough of one for me, plus i bought a good brand of rotors (brembo)

Gearbanger - even the chamfered holes can lead to stress risers which become cracks. And, you can't chamfer the backside of the hole which is inside the vented part of the rotor. The bottom line is with today's pads, holes and slots aren't necessary and don't add any braking performance. You have to ask yourself if the cosmetics are worth the risk of cracking the rotors.

Well yesterday I finish drilling rear rotors (this ones are free so if I mess up ,I don't care) I didn't install them yet

I used a drill press for the s-10 and the mustangs rotors. The Mustang rotors have been used for the past 3 summer seasons with absolutely NO problems. The S-10 made it through its first summer with NO problems as well. I just made a pattern and centerpunched the wholes. Making sure to not hit any fins which is what strengthens the rotor. Hit those and you can run into problems later down the road. I then drilled them and chamfered the holes and put them back on the cars.

i think as long as you follow the right steps....and properly measure out and mark the hole locations (make sure they clear all the veins inside the rotor) and then properly center punch, drill, and chamfer the holes when your done...then you wont run into any problems...i just dont know if its worth all the effort in terms in terms of additional braking performance. my .02

Ok guys I have made about 10 threads on different forums and everybody sayin thats unsafe so I ain't gonna install them

Thank you guys anyway

Thanks Michael Yount, its nice too see that pople know me on 5.0 tech too , not just on 94-95 specific
