Who have home made Drilled brake rotors

yeah i think its just a looks thing too, but they look damn good.

a slotted/drilled rotor stands out alot more then a plain surface rotor. on a street car i dont think the downside of the weakened design is enough of a downfall.

wasnt enough of one for me, plus i bought a good brand of rotors (brembo)

Gearbanger - even the chamfered holes can lead to stress risers which become cracks. And, you can't chamfer the backside of the hole which is inside the vented part of the rotor. The bottom line is with today's pads, holes and slots aren't necessary and don't add any braking performance. You have to ask yourself if the cosmetics are worth the risk of cracking the rotors.

I used a drill press for the s-10 and the mustangs rotors. The Mustang rotors have been used for the past 3 summer seasons with absolutely NO problems. The S-10 made it through its first summer with NO problems as well. I just made a pattern and centerpunched the wholes. Making sure to not hit any fins which is what strengthens the rotor. Hit those and you can run into problems later down the road. I then drilled them and chamfered the holes and put them back on the cars.

i think as long as you follow the right steps....and properly measure out and mark the hole locations (make sure they clear all the veins inside the rotor) and then properly center punch, drill, and chamfer the holes when your done...then you wont run into any problems...i just dont know if its worth all the effort in terms in terms of additional braking performance. my .02
