I'd go with comp, I was going to get a custom cam from 2 people who i WILL NOT put on blast, but after seeing some of the custom prices and waiting a month to get just a e-mail in return, i was taken back. It made me think if these guys take a month to respond to me on the internet, and dont answer the phone, the i would be crazy to just blindly send my money away.
realistically, COMP has been around forever, everytime i call them the phone is answered immediately, and they know thier stuff and can make you just as good of a cam as anyone else. I have an off the shelf nitrous cam from COMP and i love it, the cam is as smooth as an E-cam and brings the business like its made to
I don't want you to take my comments as being argumentative or harsh against you. But I would like to offer a different perspective, as it is relevant to selecting a custom cam grinder.
I can't speak for the process that other cam grinders use, but I know how Jay works.
Jay spends a great deal of time working with his PAYING customers. Until you SEND MONEY you are only window shopping.
Him spending several hours on each person who wants to know what he thinks would quickly eat up his time.
So, Jay designs a cam AFTER a build sheet is submitted, and payment is made. If you want cam specs before sending money and a build sheet... then you will be disappointed.
If you are ready to buy a custom cam from Jay, then all you have to do is submit a build sheet. (but don't waste his time by submitting a buildsheet until you are ready to pay $$$)
It is important to understand that COMP pays phone jockeys to be available all the time.
Jay on the other hand is a one man show, so if Jay spends an hour on the phone with a
prospective customer, then that is an hour he isn't spending on a
paying customer.
Like I said... I'm not trying to pick a fight with you, so I hope you don't take any of this personally.
