the idea of 4.30's and 4.56's have been crossing my mind with a 28" rear tire (275/60's)

running the numbers a 4.56 @5500 through the traps would be 100mph in 4th gear. 4.30's would be 107mph
this REALLY doesnt seem right.
even pulling it to 6000 in 4th only will take it to 116...

this seem REALLY low to anyone else?

I think most of the guys who would run gears like that aren't planning on trapping at 5500. More like 6500, if not higher. I think if you want to run gear like that, you can't be afraid of spinning the engine.

Realistically, what do you think your car might trap at? 116 in a 3000lb car is North of 350 to the tire.

Ran 4:30, 4:56 and 4:88 in the NMRA P/S stuff but we were turning more rpm 7700+

haha ive talked with ryan hecox a few times and i know hes shifting near 8500

if my girl would let me build a motor id do it... but i dont think something like that is in "her" budget

The hight of the tire has everything to do with this. A 4.30 isn't that steep with a 28" tall tire. It's more like a 4.10. Very rough estimate but for ever inch up on the tire, it's about a tenth down on the gear.
