the idea of 4.30's and 4.56's have been crossing my mind with a 28" rear tire (275/60's)

running the numbers a 4.56 @5500 through the traps would be 100mph in 4th gear. 4.30's would be 107mph
this REALLY doesnt seem right.
even pulling it to 6000 in 4th only will take it to 116...

this seem REALLY low to anyone else?

I think most of the guys who would run gears like that aren't planning on trapping at 5500. More like 6500, if not higher. I think if you want to run gear like that, you can't be afraid of spinning the engine.

Realistically, what do you think your car might trap at? 116 in a 3000lb car is North of 350 to the tire.

I'd say your numbers are right on the money. I think with your setup a 3.73 and 26" tire will work well.

Hmmmm.... the Rocks are strong with this one. More insidious measures will have to be considered.

I'll have to think on it and PM you with a more strategic plan.

The hight of the tire has everything to do with this. A 4.30 isn't that steep with a 28" tall tire. It's more like a 4.10. Very rough estimate but for ever inch up on the tire, it's about a tenth down on the gear.

I understand tire height will help kill some gear but the mph to the rpm doesn't seem right when I ran they numbers

Who's piston?

Skirt fracture is usually the result of excessive piston to cylinder wall clearance.
