Who's had a hernia?

Well I went to the doctor the other day because I noticed something popping out of the very bottom of my abdoman. Turns out I have two hernia's. So after 4 months of an extremely clean diet and some serious lifting this is where i end up. The best shape of my life, right during the middle of summer and two hernia's to boot. And I'm only 22. It really sucks, mostly because I want to lift so bad.

Who else has had a hernia? And how long until you were able to walk good after surgery. And then, for those who lift weights, how long until you could lift again. Just curious guys. Thanks

I had one when I was 17, in my scrotom......My dad called me tripod....lol.

The same day I was walking around and the day after I was pretty mobile. I did rest the whole weekend just in case. A week later I was at wrestling practice again.

The only thing that hurt was the scar tissue from the incision, but it wasn't immobilizing pain or anything.

My workout partner got one this past December doing squats. He started doing cardio after 5 days. We changed to routine up alittle for the first month before he started doing everything again. However, he was back in the gym in two weeks after the surgery.

I have herniations in L4 and L5 in my back, or so says my physical therapist. For a while it hurt a lot, because I didn't know what it was and didn't have it checked out. Ended up getting an MRI and was given PT. PT did the trick, havent had pain in months.

Different type of hernia Dave. Justin is referring to an inguinal hernia, where your intestines protrude outward, resulting from a tear in the muscle. You had/have herniated discs in your lumbar spine, which you're lucky you had them treated because they can cause irrversable nerve damage and loss of mobility. Typically, a hernia repair is expected to have a four to six week recovery period, to where you're back to normal and may resume all activities, but some people take longer. You're lucky that you have your good health and youth in your corner, so you'll probably be at the lower end of the spectrum for recovery time.

I jacked myself up on the leg press, hurt in my little guys. I thought it was a hurnia so went to have it checked out, and they said it wasn't a hurnea, but was common among weight lifters. It eventually went away after a year. You might be able to find better advice over on the Bodybuilding.com forums. http://forum.bodybuilding.com/index.php

Ask the guys over there and see what they think. GREAT informitive site. Their suppliments (in their online store) are cheap too compared to GNC and Hi-Health.

Thanks man. I'm actually on that site a lot. That is where I order all my supplements from. That forum and outlawmuscle.com are sites that I'm always on. I've posted over there too.
