I dont understand our cars dont weight that much and we make pretty good power.. why so slow is it the gearing.. when I put my stock 302 roller in with my AOD with gears im still not going to be in the 14s right..

Gearing, antique trannies, and crappy tires!

Tires are a big part! Back in the muscle car days the Automatic transmission was the way to go because the tires sucked so bad! Thats why there wasnt too many 4 speed cars back then!

What year/Model is your car? I hnow you aren't talking about the 02 GT.

One reason is technology. Newer cars put it to the ground more efficiently. Doesn't mean that they can't be made to be fast, but it takes some real mods. Your stock 302 is probably hovering around 200-220 HP right? Going through an AOD and the rear end, that's considerably less than 200 HP to the ground. To put that into perspective, your 02 GT (stock) should be well over 200 HP to the ground, and be somewhere in the mid-high 13's.

Another reason is traction. It takes some special voo doo to get the classics to hook up. Not impossible, just another challenge.

Hmmm, I don't know about that. Nobody has the crappy bias ply tires on their car anymore, and the C4 is a proven racing badass (when it is built right) in the 1/4. Tons of Fox body guys swap over to the C4 for it's low parasitic drag on the drivetrain which = more power to the wheels.

This is my 66 with a 302 with tyi y headers and 3.50 gears.. I would like too see 14s..

You should be getting pretty close to 14's with this car. Now that you have the AOD, I would think that you can afford to go with a lower gear like 3.73 or even 4.11. That would go a long way to get to those 14's. I'd say you're a new set of gears and a pair of drag radials away from a 14.x time slip.

<- not a drag racing expert, this is just what I've gotten out of hanging around here too much. :D

yeah

I have not been to the track yet with the 66.. I have a rpm intake and 4bbl.. I want to know if I can hit 14s with the setup before I take it out..

ok

So your saying with my engine if I have 410 gears and good tires I should see 14s.. if thats true im done with upgrading then.. maybe ill get some heads hehe..

well mines not,,,i got some power commpared to blazers and v6 pickups..

LOL, and blazers and V6 pickups are faster than 16 in the 1/4?

With a 2bbl carb, there is no way on Earth (aside from crazy gears in the back) that you are putting down better than a 16 second 1/4. To put this into perspective, a basically stock 428 SCJ Mach 1 is somewhere in the low/mid 13s. Wouldn't you figure that one of those big block cars probably beats you down the 1/4 by more than a couple seconds?

What is the whole setup like, What mods do you have? I been trying to peice it together but go ahead and put down the whole setup in one post. This will clear up some stuff and we'll be able to help you out more.

if you are running a stock cam get somethuing like an Energizer cam, this will really wake thing up.

ok

Well right now I have a 302 sitting waiting for me to drop in along with a AOD.. The engine is a 4bbl 302 ho with a RPM intake I want to put in some 410s but I have 350s now with some tri y headers and dynomax dual exhaust.. so I guess this setup should get me into the 14s and then if I get the heads and cam done it should be hella cool..
