IMO, Cobras are more of a collectable than a car to mod, etc, which is what most people who have posted have said stangnetters are interested in. I really have no interest in owning a cobra because I want them to be taken care of (garaged, babied, etc) something that I couldn't/wouldn't necessarily do all of the time.

The biggest problem is, is that most of us know the truth. As much as we love 'stangs, the bottom line is that they are nothing more than a spiffed up Fairmont. When us 'stang guys see or hear of people selling their 10 plus year old cars near,for or over the 10 G mark, we all shake our heads knowing that the trunk isn't lined in gold and it's just not worth it.

I really have to disagree with you on that one! I certainly don't know how the market is down your way, but around here (Canada) a TRUE mint condition foxbody will net you 10K on a regualar basis. Truth is many fine 75-100 thousand mile (and above) can be found in the 7-9 thousand range. However as stated earlier...true mint condition original, or modified will net you excellent $$$. The REAL problem is, as those of us who enjoy the modification and restoration aspect are aware, that we end up spending over the what we could attain by selling. They are a valued car in this vicinity...and the value is creeping up.

my bad, the 5.0 94-95 5.0 cobra's had 240hp at the flywheel, but the 5.8's had 300 hp. 96-98 had 305 w/ the 4.6 dohc. I'm sure it's a nice car, but like some people said, buying cars on internet classifieds isn't everyone's thing.

HAH! That's what people THINK. Idiots here try and sell their fox bodies for 10, 12, 15, 20k and think that they'll get it. It's a goddamned joke. And then they complain why no one will buy their car, just like what's happening now. I picked up my fox for 2k CDN, mint body. Some people will actually reasonably price their cars, though it's few and far between.

When I was shopping for a fox body, I got so pissed seeing these people try and sell their heaps for 5-6k, with over 200k on the odometer...

Yea but when people over price their car one of two things will happen. One, they'll realize that it's too high and come down or two, they'll find someone to buy it. Regardless, its better to start high and go from there. When i was trying to sell mine, i was asking 5500, but i knew i'd take 4500 and would seriously consider 4000. You have to account for the people who lowball and waste your time. If they are going in knowing they are gonna offer you 1000's less than your asking, its better to just ask more.

Modified cars can be worth less in my opinion. If you can't verify the quality of the performance parts installation, they are a risk and that means less value.

Personally, I'll pay more for an unmodified car, than a modifed car everytime for several reasons I'll not get into here.

Honest story...young man stopped at the house while I was cleaning the car. I had not seen the guy before, just saw the car and pulled up. The guy spend 20 minutes just looking it over, and asking questions...nice guy. Anyhow he asked me generally..how much I thought the car was worth, I replied IF I sold it I would want somewhere around 15K..because that's what I FELT it would take to hand over the keys. Jump forward two weeks...knock on the door, same kid..he just comes out and says he'd be willing to offer 14K cash!!!. Unfortunately I could not get my self to agree...mostly because I would just end up spending that much or more tweeking another fox body...just don't want to do it all over again, I've finally reached a point where I'm perfectly happy with mine. I would not say my fox is pristine..but I do spend more time upgrading, and cleaning than driving..not to mention the new drivetrain has documented 600miles...I feel my price is very reasonable..apparently others agree. As for the Canadain $$...the difference these days is less than .20$ on the dollar..so prices here are higher.

So that means in your prior example of a mint fox selling for $10,000 (CD), it would be the equivalent to $8,000 USD, correct?

I would not be surprised to see prices hit mid teens on average over the next 5yrs...though I would HIGHLY doubt seeing anything over high teens...I do think there is a ceiling to these cars we just haven't hit it yet.
