i must be an idiot. i cannot get my radio out. :bang: the manual says there should be 4 holes on the sides to get it out, but that is for the stock radio and mine has a pioneer radio, one of those that has the removable face plates.

i am trying to get it out because it doesn't work, and the air doesn't come out of the a/c vents either.

i know about the clips on the top and sides (up near the a/c knobs) for the center trim panel. are there 2 more clips down low?

help!!!!!

Black Vert,

I'm a Kenwood person..but the radios are similar. The silver alumiun frame around the radio has tabs that can be bent out to "grab" the radio opening to hold the radio firmly in place.

When you slide the radio chassis into the frame its lock or clicks in place.

....oops hit enter too quick

as I was saying...check the manual and see if you need "special" little tool or wires to slip into the chassis to free it up.

Several of the Kenwood models have two little rods that have to slide into each side at the same time to allow the radio to come out.

Hope this puts you on the right path....maybe check a Car Audio shop I'm sure they can give you the head ups on how to remove it.

thanks. that tells me that i have to somehow unlock the tabs.

how do i do that? is there a special tool?

Yes, for pioneers there is.

Go to best buy, tell them you had a radio installed by them and need the tools to remove it, they'll hand them to you on the spot.

They are two pieces of metal that slide in on each side and unlock it. Easy to do.
